One of the best "Prince stories", I've heard, revolves around his guitar at one of those famous Prince parties. It was a story straight out of the Kirk Douglas movie 'Ulysses'. He handed his guitar to a few guitar players, at the party, and they couldn't play it! They said it was broken or out of tune. The guitar was given back to Prince and he started to play the most amazing guitar and told the musicians that there was nothing wrong with the guitar...lol. Classic Prince. 🎶
@k3nn3thinatlАй бұрын
The crazy thing is that Prince wasn't just a guitarist. His vocals usually are the most underrated part of his live performances. He would go from baritone to falsetto with zero effort. The man was truly a unique talent.
@sub-jec-tiv6 ай бұрын
Yeah Prince is so underrated as a guitarist. He’s in the top echelon with Hendrix and maybe Zappa. Makes Clapton look like an ‘okay’ guitar player.

14:25; She's Always In My Hair ... I love that song! Never heard him doing a bad version of it. Seems he was fond of that track too. And to think it was released as a B-side!!! The 3rd Disc with B-sides of the Hits Compilation in 1993 was filled with amazing songs, that would not been out of place on any of his albums! Erotic City, She's Always In My Hair, 17 Days, Irrisisteble Bitch ... classic Prince

I remember when I was 12 years old and I was eating my morning cereal and “Soft And Wet” came on. It was so funky and different from anything else I had ever heard before. As it ended the deejay came on and said it was Prince with “Soft and Wet,” I was just amazed and wondered just who Prince was. So I walk to school and on the playground I see Carolyn, this fine girl I had a crush on. She was talking to another girl and they were gushing about this song they heard on the radio, “Soft And Wet!” From that moment on I was a Prince fan. I took my allowance and bought the album the very next week. As I grew older I kept on it. By the time I was 18 I was going to college and I “discovered” 12 inch singles and Prince had plenty and most singles had songs that were not on the albums! I am in my late 50s now and cherish all the fun I had finding all the great Prince music!

Thank you so so much for this video ! ! ! For me, the Jack White quote from Prince was precious to hear since I am a huge fan of White S. and Jack´s solo albums and all - and somehow my favourite artists in the world...they have to be Prince and Jack White, something similar in them both, rebellious to the level of a millon in both of them and so damn creative. So sad that Prince didn't start getting the recognition that he deserved as a guitarist until he was already gone. It's crazy because, Prince put out his first album all the way back in 1978. And not many people recognized his greatness as a guitar player until after he died in 2016. R.i.p Prince! The most underrated guitarist!
@CuirPhotodotNet7 ай бұрын
...i disagree....there were plenty of legends that spoke highly of his guitar skills while he was very much alive....i suspect that a certain generation of artists that are in this video were not artists and celebrities when he 1st came upon the scene....that YOU admire....but his talents and gifts were always admired by people of his generation and older...one of the things that i ....and HE noticed was that unfortunately they were trying to COMPARE him to other guitarists ....and he wanted to be known and admired own his own terms....he had very obvious references that people would throw in his face that he would DENY....but eventually he grew enough as a person and as an artist to give them there credit....and the main two....were....CARLOS SANTANA....and of course....JIMI HENDRIX....
@biggaboydraws54837 ай бұрын
@@CuirPhotodotNet yes, I agree to disagree! I love all types of music, especially the genres where the guitar is the center of attention. And I agree that Prince was always compared to Hendrix. It's only because of ignorance that they always compare talented black guitarist to Jimi Hendrix! I think it really offended Prince when they compared him to Hendrix. It really wasn't a fair comparison, two totally different types of music! And when I say that he didn't get the recognition he deserves, it's more from the people. When ever I watched these greatest guitarist of all time videos, Prince was almost never mentioned. Alot of music fans don't know of Prince's greatness!

Obviously, Prince played many instruments. That was "his thing" so to speak. He wasn't SPECIAL on any of them except for guitar. He was SPECIAL on guitar. If he just played guitar, he is up there in the Hendrix, SRV, etc. stratosphere. But if he just played guitar, he wouldn't be Prince. Oh, well.

Perfect statement - agree. Guitar was his first instrument and his other standout gift was his songwriting, which made the 1-man band approach tolerable because the songwriting was so good.
