Great lesson. I learned a vertical sliding scale, that works the same way and helped me a lot. I later realized that any familiar scale pattern can be played starting anywhere on the neck as long as you start on the same note. This combined with learning the notes and octaves helped a lot as well. This video brought all of those different ideas together for me in an ah hah way. I love ah hah moments! Thanks!

No one teaches students scales horizontally, just a couple of melodies and people start to fit the pieces together themselves. The first time I realized I can use same shape up/ down neck same or very similar I nearly fell off my chair. Had to wonder why no one explained it to me before? Would have saved me a lot of time! You are still in my humble opinion one of the absolute best out there.

Many teachers don't teach this as it is bad business - keep it complicated, keep the students coming back and learning slowly and it keeps the money flowing; I had a guitar teacher like that when I was a kid - actually would discourage me from thinking things like this as it "wasn't musical". Not all teachers are like that, of course and there are some great ones on youtube.

It’s actually an excellent way to get out of the boxes (shapes). It’s all pentatonics, so it flows through, and connect the boxes. I don’t know all five pentatonic boxes, and I don’t need them. I know where all the pentatonic scale notes are, i just don’t see the pentatonic AS boxes at all. I understand them, and have practiced them a bit in the past, but don’t really use them to navigate the fretboard.

How to not have this problem in the first place: don't learn or practice the single-position boxes at all. Only play melodies by ear. That's how I learned to play guitar solos, I hadn't even heard of any "boxes" at all before I started watching KZfaq. Is that another thing to avoid - don't watch KZfaq because people show harmful ideas there? ;) Just kidding of course.

Friend, I don’t think he claimed to invent this method. To someone just starting out this very useful information that many guitar teachers don’t teach. The guy puts out hundreds of free videos and people like you still find something to complain about. If one of his courses has helped just one person in the world enjoy the guitar then bravo to him for bringing joy to a dark and evil world.
@seltzer5334

Truth Matters It sure seems like he’s trying to take credit for it with quotes like “I started designing a path”- “I just designed a shape that was more horizontally” etc…There’s hundreds of videos on KZfaq teaching how to play the pentatonic like this. And I was talking to the video creator, not you. Yet you feel entitled enough to interject, and tell me “people like you” and how I’m complaining. When in reality, it’s people like you… who view the world as dark and evil, and act like self-righteous entitled little twats telling everybody else what’s right from wrong. Lol. Stop virtue signaling dude.
