Күн бұрын

The Gunnison River is a tailwater of the Blue Mesa Reservoir, and its really good fishing. Better known is the Black Canyon River section of the Gunnison which is further down stream, but it is still great fishing right near the dam. In fact, one of the trout I caught on my second day, was one of the prettiest rainbow's I've ever seen. Super colorful, just absolutely amazing! Also, there was something a bit surreal about this river. Being in the middle of a narrow canyon, with rocks on either side. There was an echo that made for some excellent noises when fighting fish. Every time they would jump, it sounded amplified.
The fish were hitting streamer, but on the 2nd day, I started getting some fish on dry fly and nymphs. It was a really really good day. Please stay tuned next week for an absolutely amazing day fishing!
I stayed at a camp ground overnight in a tent. The camp ground was called "Blue Mesa Escape" and I highly recommend staying there if you plan on camping around that area. If river fishing is not your thing, there is a large lake that have some record sized lake trout in them. Seriously, some are upwards of 50+ lbs! If you want to stay there, please make a reservation at the camp ground before showing up. They are booked up regularly because they are so nice and good prices. Book your trip here, at their website... www.bluemesares...
Also, many of you ask for what gear I use, so here is a list of the gear I used, and where I think are some good deals to get them.

Subscribed to your channel. Saw a 5wt fly rod at Walmart for under $30 and snatched it up. My excuse to finally get into fly fishing. Thanks to your review on the piscifun sword I bought one on amazon along with some line, backing, leaders and a fly kit. I'm excited to get out there on Oak Creek here in AZ and build my experience. I admire that you are humble when it comes to making mistakes. Thank you for your videos.

My family has a place out job Colorado near paonia. It's up in the mountains no fly fish up there a ton. I know right where your fishing. I've Ben watching your videos for a while now and you have actually gotten me in to tying Flies now. I live in South Carolina in charleston and I fly fish for redfish bass and all kinds of stuff. That looks like pine creek, you have to go there around this time of year it's extremely low and extremely clear. I went back in November while hunting and you can see the browns jump out of the water every couple of minutes. It may be cold but it's well worth it this time of year.
@McFlyAngler

Pine creek is tough though, unless you know someone that owns it, you cannot fish it. Its all private land. Except the Ute land, that is fishable I guess. I will have to go soon. :)

The road leading north into silverton has varying speeds and inclines . If you were going 45 mph it was only a short distance . That is why truckers aren’t going fast …. It’s pronounced u-Ray not ooo-Ray , Ouray was a famous native chief of the Utes . You can always tell a new flat lander to Colorado .

tried fly fishing today and it was an absolute failure.... every other cast i was getting my line tangled. not one nibble when i managed to get things right.... had fish rising 5 ft from me... i dont know what im doing wrong and i cant measure my disappointment.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 3 жыл бұрын
Well I think the first problem is the expectation you had. Fly fishing is not easy to learn, especially the first time you fish. If you haven’t practiced casting without a fly on your line, you will have tangles. Best thing to do is get a guide your first few times fly fishing. They will help you smooth out the hiccups.
