It is an ancient city. It is believed that this gaon (village) was offered as 'Gurudakshina' (gratitude) by the Pandvas to their Guru Dronacharya. About 2500 years back. This village still exists here. My house is a km away from it. Present day Gurgaon has grown around this village. It was the last point of Bahadur Shah Zafar- the last Mughal Emperor 's so called empire. Just 30 miles from the seat of power - the Red Fort. Most of the places in HARYANA have Mahabharat connections. Karnal linked to Karan. Kurukshetra linked to the great battle of Mahabharata. Later, Begam Sumru , a colorful character and mercenary, who controlled this region in the 19th century, named every village around Gurgaon after her soldiers. She also started taking part of offerings at Sheetla Mata temple - a very very ancient temple near Gurugram, the central village around which Gurgaon has grown.
