The mold is gone! Today we finish gutting out the water-damaged areas in our RV. We remove as much of the rotted framework from the ceiling and back bedroom wall as possible. We brought an 18V multi-tool to help us chop precisely through the weak, rotted wood and leave us with nice, clean cuts which we'll attach the new framework to. We also end up removing the window trim along the back bedroom wall to get a better idea of what we have to cut out.
There's a very special guest in today's video, Michael's dad! You'll get to know him well over the next few videos :-) As you'll come to learn, his smarts and experience prove to be a priceless asset in this renovation process. We cannot thank him enough for all of his help!
Sometimes you have to get creative and use tools in unconventional and unique ways to get the job done. Just think outside the box and you'll have it done before ya know it!

Again, great job guys. How cool you don't know what you're doing and decided to tackle it. When I do mine, I'll paint all the wood with Killz to keep it from rotting ever again.

I'm positive I am going for a B+ . Luckily my truck camper never leaked anywhere nor my 5th wheel. Heard Class C's have a lot of issues with leaks. Poor guys what a job but, each video it's looking so improved.

If I remember right, many things are treated with formaldehyde as a way of preventing stains (like older upholstery!), as it acts as a general preservative (:.

I am literally doing the same exact thing to my 84 Fleetwood Jamboree which has extensive water damage and tons of mold. I put up studs to prevent the roof from falling down as I tear things down. Did you all seal the roof and walls before or after doing the gutting? I'm sealing first and then gutting.

This is great information. Thanks for reminding folks to use respirators. So many just figure 'what the heck, it's not that bad'. Also, I'm just curious, how can you see through those sunglasses when you have a pair of safety goggles on?

+Tom Smith Yes, safety first in this RV!Haha. Unfortunately they're Rx glasses so I really need them. It wasn't too bad.

I figured but wasn't sure. So I just watched the roof vent replacement video. Awesome job! You do very nice work. I like that you pay attention to the details and don't rush through it. Your RV should hold up very well. Good luck and keep up the amazing video log when you start traveling.

What mix did you use to kill mold. How long did you let it dry before starting the next step? Was the outside shell glued to the wood you pulled out?

We let it air out for a few days. I think it was a mixture of water, alcohol, tee tree oil and some other things. If you look online, you should be able to find it pretty easy.

Yes! It was quite a project to tackle with little to no experience. We are thankful that my dad was able to lend some of his knowledge and so glad that it's behind us! It was a very rewarding experience and really makes us appreciate what we have.

Structural integrity is an issue ,blindly cutting beams equals bad ideas ,no matter what how final product looks in the END, polishing a turd is harder than it sounds/appears .Careful and thoughtful and experience speaks volumes , proper repairs aren't cheap and cheap repairs are NOT proper .

@DuetJustusFam
@DuetJustusFam 8 жыл бұрын
Lol! We have the description of the RV in the video notes, but it is a 1989 class c that we picked up for $4,000. In future videos, we will go into the overall cost of the renovations and remodel, but you can't pass up a truck and a house for four grand... right?!? :)
@TinfoilHatGirl
@TinfoilHatGirl 8 жыл бұрын
Duet Justus Yeah I saw it too late that you provided the info in the description. 4k is ok if the engine is in good shape, else I would think it is too much for THAT kind of water damage. Geez...huge parts of the inside material had rotten down to soil basically :-o Looking forward to upcoming vids - always nicely edited and very informative! Big up :)
