I don't really think Itachi was scared of Guy specifically, but he had reinforcements on the way and Itachi says in the anime at least that they're not prepared to fight a full scale battle and to retreat. They ended up finding Naruto anyway later. If someone knows what the accurate translation of the manga is then you can feel free to let me know

@@izmizzle Itachi's genjutsu is ineffective against guy because guy can fight someone by looking at only their feet. Hitachi can cast genjutsu with his hands and eyes but not feet. Thats the reason Itachi was worried about him.

Lee watching his master fight one more time and having the mind of steel to learn and focus for what would’ve been his final lesson is extremely poetic. It is very consistent with his character and relationship with Guy. He never doubts him and trust him completely. Really good writing.

Well honestly he got no use in all of Shippuden. I think it was a great moment to have him acknowledge by the main antagonist and that's fine by me. Guy is one of my favorite characters. I wouldn't go watching Boruto or anything crazy, but he got no shine in any other series either. His moments against Kisame and Madara are just great moments and that's that.

In so many ways, the author really let down the audience by not having them both die here. Especially if you're just going to do some moon princess bad guy BS, let Madara be struggling near death, and then get betrayed. Let guy die here, not just recognized by Madara, but have all 5 Kage's recognize him as their equal or better.

Gai is such a loveable goofball that it’s often hard to take him seriously. But he made Itachi back down, defeated Kisame twice, Has an even record with Kakashi, And broke the laws of physics to nearly obliterate Madara Uchiha. Not only did he do that, but he had such conviction and unwavering loyalty to his friends. With the possible exception of Lee, Might Gai is without a doubt, my favorite character in Naruto. Even when his leg was busted for it, he still kept exercising every day.
