Honestly, Kishimoto introduced so many intresting abilities in Naruto he absolutely did not know haw to utilise in Shippuden. Pretty much the only important clan ability ended up being the Sharingan and here in this fight Naras Shadow techniques. Like choji and ino are pretty useless in this fight. But its not just them. Almost every clan didn't live up to the hype.

Gai is such a loveable goofball that it’s often hard to take him seriously. But he made Itachi back down, defeated Kisame twice, Has an even record with Kakashi, And broke the laws of physics to nearly obliterate Madara Uchiha. Not only did he do that, but he had such conviction and unwavering loyalty to his friends. With the possible exception of Lee, Might Gai is without a doubt, my favorite character in Naruto. Even when his leg was busted for it, he still kept exercising every day.
