When you are 145 pounds, the perfect bike to be on is a factory 250F... If you are not on one of the factory teams though, it is hard to spend the money required to up a worked practice bike especially in summer. This means guys like Coty Schock take their chances in a stacked 450 field for outdoors. At 145lbs, Coty shock is a little dude on a big bike!

I moved up the bike scale pretty fast....never raced just rode a lot growing up. Rode my 1st bike, an 89 XR80 from 9-11 and then got a 1986 YZ80 for a year when I was 12. Jumped up to a 91 KX125 when I was 13 and 6 months later my older brother upgraded his CR250 and I already wanted more power. I sold my 125 and bought his 91CR250. I think I had just cracked the 110-115 lb range. I'd ridden my older bros 89CR500 by that point too. 115 lbs on a 500 2t is about as noticeable as a fly landing on a horse😂 Most of our riding was dune riding and open desert. I could put that 500 into 4th gear and lug it anywhere I wanted to go at Sand Mountain in Nevada. 1300 vert sand hill climbs were no match for that bike. Didn't even need paddle tires.

Wardy was around 150 lbs riding a 500 cc two stroke back in the day! He was in amazing shape and was strong enough to hang on. Go back and watch the 1987 millville 500 national between Wardy and RJ. Curious why this “450 issue” was never such a big deal when RC, bubba and even VP were around. Is it that the bikes are just that much more powerful (10-15%) and that much heavier (10-15%) now? All of those guys were pretty light as well

@KosmicHRTRacingTeam
@KosmicHRTRacingTeam 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mountain_Yeti ya, but part of the HUGE complaints we keep hearing is that they are saying they are coming into corners way too fast and it’s much harder to get the bike slowed down (faster and heavier?) and get it turned (heavier?) and so the constant heavy braking is wearing them out. We do hear issues of the power ripping their arms off (like mentioned, never heard Bubba, RC or VP bitching about this stuff) and with the parts that factory teams have, I’m not sure the bikes back then couldn’t be tuned to be just as linear if they wanted (some basic carb mods did wonders for this). 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ryan Hughes talked about how the tracks today are too smooth and maintained too well. Whoops not sharp anymore, too rounded off. So they are carrying more speed everywhere. I’m sure the factory bikes have also improved significantly since RC retired in 2007. Combine the two and I think that’s why people are saying they’re too fast for current tracks.

@@stevehartwell1861 actually, it is an incredible amount of weight when you are talking about such light bikes. People make a huge deal about a KTM being 5-10 lbs lighter and that is lowering in the bike, body weight is much higher up. I happen to race Karts and we have a weight minimum, if you are just 1 pound under, you are DQd. No questions asked. Period. We Try to get within 2-3 lbs when we are done with the heat or main because if you are 5lbs up, it makes a difference. Weight makes a huge difference as far as lap times go, there is no debating that. Even guys in F1 get weighed right after they finish to meet the requirements, and we are talking about cars with over 1000hp!!!
