Having a shallow sink also stops people from opening the tap too much, in addition to the recycled water. Brilliant on both ends!

@@yosushi4453 Do you mean that because the sink drains into the toilet tank? Where is the water coming from that comes from the handle on the tank? Is it the same pipe that the toilet uses? To me, an American, having the wastewater from the sink going into the toilet tank for flushing is a great way to save water. Thanks for any input!

In my House Toilets, washing machine,and garden are connected on a rainwater tank. Simply because using potable water in the toilets it's something really stupid. Saving on the water consumption is very important that way, and you finally discover that the most potable water use in a house is not use to be drink or cooking or shower. By using rain water tank, my original potable water consumption has been decreased by 70% . 10m3 tank is enough to provide permanent water even with a 3 months summer without rain.
@NB-ky5ol
@NB-ky5ol 4 жыл бұрын
Laurent Vilarem In some cities in America it is illegal to collect rain water. I agree that using potable water is wasteful in toilets but unless they start installing these types of units in new construction we cannot change the current consumption of fresh water.

@@NB-ky5ol Incredible that rain water is under a law ! You're right about the actual and short future consumption of fresh water. This sink system is quite logic et efficient by the way. In another level you can have a look of the water system in the Earthship houses .

Rod Iv No, potable taps and shower are using potable water. As I'm not filtering and treating the rain water, I won't take the risk of drinking it, not for me but for the kids mainly. You never know what's comming from the rain water, acid rain or things like that could cause problems in the body so .... I'll do a video if I have time and will explain the system, it's pretty simple and designed to be upgradable of course. 😉

This is brilliant but the only problem I could see here is if you are the type of person that shaves or uses any kind of soaps the residues can build up in the back of your toilet and you may need to be prepared to clean that out if you don't want things to get funky. I would do it anyway and be prepared to clean out the back of my toilet every once in awhile. Love the video man I like how you use the angle grinder too carefully Carve out the sink bowl. It cuts off after tank is full if done correctly it should not overflo unless you have a adult like child that just wants to keep flushing the tank just to play in the water LOL. I wonder if you could put some kind of inline grease trap in it, then I'm all in. We were thinking of doing this in our bus/rv since water is sometimes in short supply on the road and only breakdowns require me to get greasy

Great idea in theory, but I can’t imagine how gross a normal household toilet tank would get after filling the tank with toothpaste water, spit and all the other crap that normally goes down the sink. Also, the speed at which the tank would refill would require several individuals washing their hands before flushing, compounding the grossness of the toilet water.

That is a beautiful sink, but if you're using enough water to flush the toilet when you wash your hands, you need to rethink your priorities. If you want to save water, do this method. It uses less than 500ml per handwashing. Put some soap on your dry hand. Set a stop on your sink tap so the flow is minimal, low enough that the aerator doesn't add bubbles and the water stays clear, or just a bit more than dripping. Coat your hands in water and shut off the tap. Scrub your hands. Turn the water back on low and rinse for about 10 seconds. I'm still really impressed with your craftsmanship, but go ahead and plumb it directly into the waste water pipes. Gray water in the toilet tank ends up feeding bacteria and creating its own gunky problems. And here in California, we expect to be able to drink out of the toilet tank after earthquakes :)

And if you REALLY want to save water, do like everybody's dad and keep a jar under the workbench and pour it out in the garden. When it finally gets too gummed up, throw it in the recycling and finish off another jar of peanut butter. Pro tip, a tablespoon or so of vinegar keeps the struvite from precipitating onto the inside of the jar.
