It was his first hack and he was a GEM, more confident, willing and bold than any first-timer I've seen. HE LOVES TO JUMP! What a treat! Whatever you decide to do together, hope you already know you are so very lucky!

What a perfect way to start a young horse off for him to gain confidence in himself and you. I love how he so bold, willing and is actively listening to you. He’s going to make a fantastic hunting or 3DE horse.

As a kid the dealer that used to “let me ride” the horses he was bringing on and getting good to go and sell on at auction kindly let me be first on them and first out on the roads and hacking with them. One thing that stuck with me to this day was always ride out first time bareback. I got so good at riding a sudden flat out gallop and the emergency bailout dismount it was ridiculous but to be honest, lack of money and being poor as a shithouse rat probably accounted for the lack of saddle. I still feel happier with my feet out the stirrups it's just an inbuilt default setting I think. What a good lad he is though I find it hard to believe it's his first time hacking he took those woods like a seasoned pro 🥰

thats a tree man ! LMAO 😀 Definatly don`t overthink when you take your youngster on its first hack.. I was "put on " a trotter to ride in the woods..young,that had never been ridden before and never been on anything but a racetrack and you know..the training tack for trotters.. The good thing tho s that I did not know that before I got back to the stable and the owner asked me how it went.LOL.. It went fine..the only thing she reacted to was water.. as a lot of trotters do..so I thought it was only a trotter thing..so I rode on confident, and we even had to ride along sidewalks in traffic and met people on rollerscaters..My point is I think..the horse trust you.. and if you do not know or overthink..the horse does not either... Keep up the good work.. 🙂

A good horse. If he is a novice don't make his first jumps ones on angles especially if his steering is still to be worked on. If he has an accident it will spoil his forward going courage.

How old is he? Did a great job all things considered. Not sure I know many people who'd ride a horse first time out hacking!
@msgpoloeventing3 жыл бұрын
He's 5. He was out in the field all night and had a gallop in the paddock in the morning as well as lunged earlier to him being ridden like I do with all my youngsters. I had also groomed him everyday and led him out on foot so he was comfortable and confident around me - I knew I wasn't going to have full control over him yet because he obviously didn't know any aids but I was with an experienced horse that could nanny him if he panicked etc. but he seemed to really enjoy his first outing!! I am currently working on him in the arena (hard at the moment because most arenas are not open!!) to make sure he understands the correct aids and to work on him being straight and even through his back so he works both sides of his body evenly. He is slowly becoming more confident and I am working him slowly over poles whenever I can. I'm glad you like him, even though early days, I seem to like him too and I enjoy working with him. I aim to make him as happy and comfortable around people as I can as well as give him a job that he loves!! Thank you for the subscription! I am currently exercising my polo ponies for the summer so some good content coming up with them and more with him!!

I haven’t heard the term “hacking” before as a word for trail riding with obstacles. When I saw the word I thought you were going to teach him how to be a “Hackney horse”which is usually in a harness and pulling a cart. I thought this will be interesting to see someone riding a “Hackney” horse. Looks like he really enjoyed himself. Seems like a calm, confident young boy. Good horsemanship skills and encouraging him. Just a little concerned with him jumping and slipping with it being so muddy. 🇨🇦🤠🐴
