The fates in the game cursed them

Well I think it plays how in mythology Persephone was bound to the underworld after eating the pomegranate seeds. Therefore zag had the curse passed onto him but permanently

@@kuddlecat She didn't eat any underworld food before she met Zagreus tho. She came up with the pomegranate seed idea as part of the epilogue.

@@cedeelbe that is why he wrote "in mythology". In Greek mythology and not in the game, Persephone actually could not physically leave the underworld for six months in a year because she ate six pomegranate seeds. The game just picks and chooses which aspects of mythology it wants to use and for whom it applies, so there is really no telling how exactly Zagreus's bond to the underworld works in game lore unless the game itself explains it in greater detail.

the thing to understand is because the underworld Gods were considered scary, Hades' name was often not mentioned in writing. and he would sometimes be called the Zeus of the underworld among many other titles. this led to his children being difficult to identify. this includes Zagreus where no one knows if he is Hades or Zeus's son. the games made acknowledge these myths and make them part of the stories. long story short in the version he is Zeus`s son, Hera gets 5 titans to kill him and eat him, but Zeus jumps in and kills the titans before they eat Zagreus's heart. there are 2 versions of this story. in one Athena finds it, makes a potion out of it and gives it to one of Zeus's many lovers to revive him. Hera tries to kill him again, and Zeus is forced to hide him in his testicle till he is reborn as Dionysius. the game acknowledges all the versions and incorporates them into the game. in-game you and Dionysius tell this version to a poet as a prank. but the version we are interested in is the one where Nyx gets the heart. Away from Hera's eyes, she rebirths Zagreus, but keeps him hidden in the deepest layers of Tartarus with her children till he is strong enough to survive. I believe this is the game reason to keep him found in the underworld. they are acknowledging this version of the story.

Hes a pure blooded olympian, first born of Kronos in fact. Hes literally just built different.

Spoiler: It's because of Nyx's interference. It shouldn't have been possible for Hades to bear a living heir and child, yet through the will of Nyx, she bypassed the fate enforced by..well the Fates.

@@zekrom129 Ah makes sense. To answer that question its because he has made a dominion of the underworld, however doing so separates him from the rest and become a dweller of the underworld.
