Hagerman Reactivator 12AU7 Tube Overdrive
This overdrive is based around a 12AU7 tube for maximum headroom and smooth breakup. Changing the 12AX7 for AU7 has been a popular mod to the Tube Driver for achieving more headroom and allowing the pedal to be used as a clean booster. The Reactivator is capable of everything between clean boost to near fuzz, with that classic tube character.

Nice! Your playing is very musical, and I like listening to you play. Sometimes I click just for the playing. It seems like a very affordable tube pedal as well, so that's interesting.

I live in Brazil and get one of those pedals is nearly impossible. I subscribed to this channel only to hear Bjorn playing. I really like that instead just playing random riffs from Pink Floyd songs, he put all his soul and feelings on these videos

Bjorn, you've been a real inspiration for my playing style and tone. You're reviews and tips are invaluable for anyone who wishes to get smarter about their play and tone! Thank you so much!! On an unrelated to Hagerman comment/request, is there any way you might someday consider obtaining a Line 6 Helix? Wow, I can just image the tone possibilities for those of us that use one! If you were to develop various patches based on your tone and Gilmour's tone I would definitely like to purchase those... Anyway THANKS SO UCH again for all the work you put into Gilmourish!

Thanks for your kind words Dan! If Line 6 will send me one, I will surely do a review or presentation. I used a Pod X3 for years for recording stuff. Even back then, Line 6 sounded great and especially the modulation and delay stuff.

Sounds very nice, I’d consider buying one if it wasn’t for the fact that after two years of trying, I’ve finally cracked the perfect tones on my Butler tube driver. 12au7 is definitely the way to go but what surprised me was the difference in tone between RCA (more top end) and JJ valves, never mind trying Mullard at7s (not great). An amp with sufficient headroom helps. Thanks as always to you Bjorn for your guidance and skills.

I put a Mullard 12AU7 in one of my Tube Drivers and it really gives it a fizzy “Hi-Watt” overdrive tone. Amazing what single tube can do.

Hi Bjorn, that was another great video. I wanted to ask you if you would want to take a look at Harley Benton’s Blackstrat (ST-57DG Black) which is their version of David Gilmour’s legendary guitar. It seems quite compelling for its low price.
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
I've never tried Harley Benton's. I don't they have them here in Norway... so I can't really tell. It seems like a decent guitar, with alder body, vintage style pickups and pretty much what you want for your DG style Strat.

Hi Bjorn I've been a long time fan all the way from Canada! I love what what you do and being that David Gilmour is my hero too it's inspiring to have a guide like you to help us emulate our hero! I have so many questions for you but maybe over time. I did want to ask you have you ever just sat down and played an entire album say Animals for example completely to see how close you can get to sounding exact as one can get? Again thanks you rock brother! Cheers 🍻

Hi Bjorn. It reminds me of the VOX pedal Flat4. Have you ever tried it? I really loved that pedal as a boost. From your video, it seems that the Reactivador has way more drive, and the Vox has not a boost. But anyway. Great video, thanks.

Love the way you play, how does the pedal sound if you just set the Level to unity and just use the pedal to apply some drive without making your amp louder? Or does the pedal sound best if you use the Level to increase vol as well? Similar question about the booster, does that just apply more gain or does it increase the volume as well. thanks!
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
I set the volume to unity in this clip so what you hear is a clean amp and the pedal producing dirt. The booster side adds more gain and a bit of compression.

thanks for the review, good sir. great playing as always! do you think this would be a good pedal to boost a scooped muff into a lionheart? looking at the frequency graph on hagerman's site, it seems like a mid-hump can be achieved in only a few settings (bass & treble rolled down)... do the other controls (volume, gain, boost) or other characteristics of this pedal help add body to the sound when the EQ is set to flat? i was wondering if the klon would work better for this purpose since klons maintain their humped EQ shape across all settings... which would you prefer to use boost a ram's head? thanks!
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
The Hagerman is flat or slightly scooped so if you want a bit of mids but not too much, then I’d go for the Boss BD2 or a Klon type.

I just bought a laney lionheart 20w head. What EQ/settings do you use for a good mid-late 70s gilmourish clean tone?
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on your speakers and pickups but I like to use the drive channel, with the bright engaged. Drive as high as you can get it without breakup, usually around 9:00, bass and mids 3:00, treble 8:30 and tone around 11:00. This also works on the clean channel. Now, the amp is very sensitive to the pickups and how you set the volume on the two channels. You might need to adjust these settings accordingly but it should give you a start.

@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
The TDX has been on my board since it was released so it's hard to beat for me... and I have several BK Tube Drivers too. This one is something different. It can do that Tube Driver thing but it's better at clean boost and using that tube to drive a tube amp.

Sounds awesome Bjorn! Any thoughts on how this would play in front of a Katana? Thanks!
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I would imagine it would work just fine. With the Katana being solid state you might not get the best boost out of it but it should sound great as a mild overdrive and to replicate David's softer Tube Driver tones.
@8BRInteractive
@8BRInteractive Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about its ergonomics. Having the super-hot tube so close to the controls doesn't seem safe; you could easily burn your fingers. And of course, you can forget about having it in your pedal board, as it'd be very easy to break the tube with your shoe. If the tube was placed somewhere safer...
@gilmouring
@gilmouring 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Bjorn, great demo, but for me this pedal is flunked! Too much grit and too less gain, it can't really compare to the Tube Driver, which has more gain and smoothness (even with the AU)! This is nice for some tones, but for the price I'd expect something as versatile as the real deal! These are my 2 cents of course 😊
@gilmourishofficial
@gilmourishofficial 2 жыл бұрын
This is not a Tube Driver with a 12AU7 but rather a similar cirquit. Depends on what you need then and there and how these pedals pair with your amp and pickups. The Reactivator works great as a front end booster and mild overdrive. Especially in a recording situation where you want to control the signal.
@gilmouring
@gilmouring 2 жыл бұрын
@@gilmourishofficial yes I got that. And I am saying it's not worth the price 😂😂😂 For example there's an italian brand, Nemphasis which for the same price offers a clone of the Tube Driver 9V (I don't remember the model name...it was smaller, with a tone knob)...That's way better! Just my opinion obviously 😉
