Thank you for this video and proverb! For many years even I've been unclear as to what the precise usage of "cai/tsai" (depending on spelling) is. I had always thought of peng as being an upward energy but had never compared it to cai/tsai before. Thank you for explaining these proverbs to us! I especially appreciate the clarity of language, which is rare to find elsewhere.

Thabk you master for the very precious quote. I also fully agree that we should always keep in mind which is the meaning of single movements in forms or techniques, in order to do them correctly 🐉

Thank you Sensei Yang, for sharing your interesting proverbs with us. I have two questions: 1. Does Lu type of energy (Roll Back) is not also closing? Does this type of energy is different in essence from CAI? Or they are just two examples of closing, and you choose to light CAI for us to comprehend it more? 2. Do you have a proverb about the importance of K1 area in Tai chi Chuan and especially in the Silk reeling drills and Jin cultivating? This subject is very interesting and less discussed in the community.

I was just going back over the 8 energies with my taijiquan class today! My understanding of cai is different. I’ve always heard that cai is plucking, something akin to grabbing or pulling a flower off its stem, martially pulling someone off their root. Further, I thought Lu/roll back was the opposite of peng. I would love to hear your thoughts. Your physical demonstrations are always helpful, too. Thanks, Martin

Hello, of course, there are different versions of translations of Cai, which is very normal. However, what I am introduced to here is based on my learning and teaching. Most Tai Chi practitioners in China agree with this version. As for Lu, it is not rolling back; I have shot next week's video and this topic has been discussed in the coming video. I try not to have physical demonstrations in this series unless it is very necessary. Thank you.

Do you have any experience with Yang tai ji and their internal Jin movement through release (song)? These energies have specific, literal expressions in the physical tissues associated with Jin movement in the Yang approach.

Is this proverb from historical source? The orthodox meaning is Peng is an expansive, filling energy, whereas Cai is an energy to draw the opponent out to the side and back to pull them off their balance. My understanding of the 8 jin are quite different from your explanations.

Of course there are historical sources. Orthodox is a big word, in my opinion. Well, if you think what you are taught is orthodoxical, then I have to say that it depends on whom taught you that. By the way, does any part that what I explained in my video is not orthodoxcal?

@@HaiYangChannel Sorry, orthodox was not the right word I was looking for. I'm just interested in comparing how different masters interpret these concepts to expand my understanding.

when you explain the previous proverb, i don't get what you mean, i thought the proverb meant to train so your mind, move your body as intended by the mind, but why in your explaination, sounds like you train to seperate them, use visualization first, and then improve the movement depart from the visualization ? then you mention focus of martial objective, what's that martial objective ? and what's this energy level ? what's the relation with mind and body in this proverb ? and then you said strong martial intent must be let go, and need to be relaxed instead, because it could cause stiffness ? in my understanding, if you have intent in your mind, you must be able to express them with your body, so your body move as your mind intended, this what mind and body in harmony :|
