That government was the first to stimulate private and state farms( cotton, oil seeds, fruits and , Livestock etc) and small scale farmers productivity that makes Ethiopia one of promising food producers in Africa. Don't belive me read Americans assessment for the time. What we did to those state farms today? We ruined them today).2. Impressive legal system which we buried it since the revolution. 3. The first of its kind "Idget be Hibret" a massive campaign to change the rural Ethiopia, 4. Highly trained navy, airforce and army which was surpassed only by South Africa and Egypt in Africa guarding our boarders day and night, 5, Impressive foreign policy both with west and east totally joining one camp was the biggest mistake we committed after the revolution., 6, The first functioning social protection system ( for war veterans, for children's with out parents, and also retirement benefit etc), 7, The first of its kind health system. Two government systems since 1974 build only 2 hospitals in 50 years in Addis Ababa, Haile build more than 12 in his time not to mention the rural and provincial health facilities. 8. Factories, ports, airports, transport facilities, 9, Extensive and detailed study of our country natural resource and future development directions which current government's claim they produce the Idea. But those peoples who make the studies (Americans, Germans, Soviets and others) will lough on us. 10, Intact social cohesion (respect for elders, law and religion....) I can add another 50 more rows but I will make you bored. (B) Financial efficiency 1, that government was a very serious saving government that had worked hard not to get in dept or buncrapcy for a short gain. 2. The annual budget of the country was very limited but achieving all those looks a miracle for some. 3. What were our exports? Few oil seeds, cattle, skin and hide, coffee. What was our borrowing ratio limited we were buying from foregin countries with fraction of todays export level. (C) Currently generation misleading: Most of my generation complain many wrongs were done. True just like any government. They also claim we could have done an even better . Again That's true. But we should understand limitations of capital, educated personal, technologies and others. Above all we should remember we were still in Monarchy and HM found it hard to change that centuries old tradition in few years. But he had tried hard and achieved something.
