You can also part her hair and then twist it in like four to six sections and wash each section. Take down one section Detangle it, then wash it. Then twist it back up. If you don’t twist it back up into those sections after washing it. Her hair will tangle right back up. So this part is very important. Do each section like that one by one. You will see that the aloe vera juice makes the hair easier to comb through, because it makes her hair slippery and moist so the comb will go through her hair easier. Note: If you don’t have an aloe vera plant. You can use an all natural detangler, or an all natural leave in conditioner. Also if you’re going to buy these products from the beauty supply, make sure they don’t have harsh chemicals in them and make sure they’re for Kids.

So gentle with her. I believe her hair is more 4A than 4B but she can also have both. Here a few suggestions I have. 1. Use a wide tooth comb instead of a pick. It gives you a better grip and control. 2. Those knots on the ends are single strand knots or fairy knots. So many reasons as to why Mikko might get them. Google offers many ways to avoid them. 3. Use a detangler. Its so many to choose from. 4. Deep conditioning or use a leave in conditioner. 5. Try to avoid combing her hair when its dry. Always use a product or try using the LOC method to maintain moisture. 6. Protective styles help to keep hair tucked away and moisturized. 7. Try finger detangle. 8. Use the method that works best for you.

Poor babe - her hair is so thick, and the pulling must hurt so badly. Good job to everyone involved for getting through it as slowly and painlessly as possible!

Aloe Vera gel will help you detangle her hair easily. Make sure she is not allergic to it first. Also use leave in conditioner that is creamy before you start sectioning her hair. It will help a lot. Try to also only finger detangle and see if that helps. She is so adorable and can sleep when daddy is massaging her hair! How cute? 🥰🥰🥰

As a parent with a daughter with a lot of hair (3c/4a). Hear is some Advice (take it or leave it): start wash in small sections. Braid the sections Get tangle teezer brush. It is your best friend. Before detangling make sure to Use A LOT of conditioner with good slippage per section. Use a tangle teezer brush, not a pick. It takes longer, but it’s gentler. Never comb her hair without conditioner Or leave-in de-tangler conditioner. Also, when manipulating, try not to create more tangles. Manipulate hair in a SMOOTHING downward action. After shampoo/conditioner, keep those same sections and apply a moisturizing cream and oil. Or you can just add oil after your leave in conditioner.

My granddaughter has the same type texture hair so her father decided to give her dreadlocks and it so much easy to do. I think she has 3c 4a as hers it a lot similar to mine I’d say a wide tooth comb and a detangling comb works best so it will be easier to comb ❤

My hair is exactly like your little girls. I use Aussie conditioner. I’ve tried a ton of conditioners, natural ones, ones specifically for black hair. But the only one that works is the Aussie moist conditioner. Also get a Tangle Teaser. It’s the only one that works on my curls. I’m very tender headed and I never feel pain when I use the tangle teaser brush.

Pre-Wash: Dry detangling with just fingers and part hair into 4 sections and loosely twist them up. If dry detangling doesn't work try detangling with conditioner with a lot of slip. Depending on the hairstyles she wore before if her hair is stretched out from braids detangling could be easier. Washing: Shampoo and condition each section separately. Use more conditioner to make the detangling brush glide through the hair. If you take out smaller section from the section you're working on detangling should go smoothly. You can also try out different detangling tools like a tangle teezer brush or a simple wide tooth comb ( instead of that metal pick) Post-wash/styling: After washing I personally use a Leave in, cream and oil (LCO-method) and try to keep my hair not too dry throughout the week as my hair tangles up more the drier it is. And I'd suggest using some kind of protective style over night either like you did mini braids or a big pineapple with satin scrunchies and maybe even a satin bonnet during night to avoid some friction and more tangles. In a nutshell: section out and detangle hair before washing and use more conditioner with lots of slip when wet detangling. Try out new stuff and see how it goes. Good luck 🍀

Hello Loves! I recommend that you try co-washing (washing with conditioner only). Get a large, very ride toothed plastic comb. The metal Afro pick’s teeth are too small and narrow. Instead of shampooing, you dampen her hair with water and then saturate it with conditioner. Massage her scalp well to listen any dirt and then while the conditioner is still on her use the comb to section her hair into four sections. Massage her scalp and comb each section out. It will be super easy with the conditioner still in. With the conditioner still on do a chunky two strand twist for each section and secure the end with a rubber band. THEN comb each section out while rinsing out the conditioner. Once the section is rinsed out re-twist the section and move in to the next one. Pat the twists dry with a towel and voila. Clean, detangled and done. It will be so much easier on everyone. Hope you’ll try this method. Blessings to you and your beautiful family. ✨🫧✨🫧✨

You did a nice job with her hair. Two hours from start to finish isn't bad. Hair parts don't have to be straight, as long as her hair is clean and kept. It gets better with time. My daughter when young use to cry every time I'd wash her hair also. And she isn't Autistic. Most all Toddlers do. So in saying that's normal behavior. But she is conquering everything that is thrown her way. Stay blessed

You may also need to keep her hair in protective styles during the week in order to avoid too much tangling. So like some bigger plaits or twists with her usual hair accessories. For me, if I’ve been wearing my hair out during the day, once I’m going to bed that night I will put it in some sort of twists or plaits to avoid it tangling when I sleep. And the other thing too is I often keep the same parts from wash day so that when I need to moisturize it mid week or whenever the parts are there for me to reuse. These are the same parts that I detangled my hair in… roughly 8 or so sections. So for Mikko, you can do these parts prior to washing, detangling in these parts where the hair already has some oil with a good conditioner or detangler. When you wash it, wash it in these sections. What happens is the shed hair makes the hair more tangled so if you detangle prior to the wash, it reduces the knots. And as other ppl have mentioned, you can wash each section at a time… starting from the top to the back if she lying down that way you’re not washing back dirt on to a clean section. And definitely invest in a solid plastic wide tooth comb (that metal comb isn’t the best). Also I don’t know if she keeps a bonnet on at night but that also helps to reduce tangles before the next wash day. I hope that helps. 🙏🏾

Patience and love. That's what it's all about. My autistic son is in his late 20's and attends college and loves the drama club and choir. He didn't start verbally talking until he was three. It seemed each year he increased his vocabulary. I am so very grateful for my son. He has taught me so much about myself and how important it is to always take a deep breath and keep on going. He is on par with people his age, but it was not easy.

Washing my son’s hair is an event too. I separate his hair when I put conditioner and after I wash off the conditioner I put in a leave in conditioner and separate it again. I then start to detangle with a wet brush. It take me half and hour to do his hair. Also I rough section and spray more water if needed to detangle. You’re amazing parents!

I detangle my daughters hair in sections using conditioner. I twist each section and then wash her hair whilst in the twist. Edit: Put product in your daughters hair before parting it. It will make it easier.

I have a granddaughter with very thick hair like Mikko, plus she is tender-headed, with autism. I wash and condition her hair. The real work is to brush and comb it. 1) Get rid of the pick it will cause too many tears. 2) Get a wide tooth comb, wet brush and a regular comb. 3) take a very small section of hair, put a very moisturizing leave in conditioner on her hair and work from the bottom to top. The leave in moisturizer should help to glide the tangles away, plus less tears. 4) Use the wide tooth comb to manage and get the tangles out the hair with the leave in conditioner. Once the wide tooth goes through the small section, then use the wet brush or regular comb. Take your time and be very gentle, for an autistic child is very sensitive. 5)Then you repeat this process in each and every smaller section of hair. Style it however you want as you go through each section. 6) Although it is a very cute style for kids, I would recommend not to put her hair in puffs. It causes a lot of tangles and it is a nightmare to untangle. The best style is braids, twists, french braids, corn rows. These styles help to protect her ends from knots aka fairy knots. She is definitely daddy’s little girl. My daughter has the same type hair. I use moisturizer and water. She didn’t like getting her hair done. Daddy don’t like his baby upset. She is an angel.

You can detangle her hair with any type of leave in conditioner, that doesn’t have a lot of chemicals or sulfates in it. Make sure it is all natural! You could also take the juice from an aloe vera plant and rub it in her hair. It would make her hair softer and you will be able to put the comb through it easier. It will give her hair elasticity. Also, you want to use a detangling brush.

Some helpful suggestions: 1) Section her hair in braids/twist then wash and condition. Hair and scalp will be clean with her hair not tangling. Less stress on all of you. 2) Add detangling product to each braid/twist, then detangle by each braid or twist. 3) THROW THE PICK AWAY. It is entirely too small to detangle all that hair. 4) Get a large detangling brush and a very very large comb. It will work so much better. Good luck.❤

I wish more parents who have kids with intellectual disabilities spent more time with them. Help them with their care and teaching them. I’ve had so many come in as adults and know nothing about self care or how to help themselves. I appreciate parents like you. Please keep going. (Note: I’m talking about adults who have disabilities. I understand she is a child and still is learning. However, it starts as a child where they learn. So that’s why I am praising her parents.)

Try putting her hair in 8 braids before washing, and wash and condition her hair in the braids… don’t take the braids out till you’re ready to style it, less stress on her. I do that because thick hair gets tangled when wet 😊and that way you can focus on one section at a time

Love the gentle approach and every child is different as you already know & have said. Plus, what works with washing hair sometimes changes with age & sensitivities. From sink, to tub, while she was outside playing with water table, now daughter (14) loves to stand up in shower & play with water while I wash, condition, detangle hair. Hand held shower head a blessing. Daughter has similar hair. I finger detangle then use tangle teezer for curly hair detangling brush , ends first. All done with lots of conditioner on hair. She likes to pick the one she likes scent of (all natural). It’s all a process continuing to find what works best for her at each stage & age. Keep working with her like you are. For A few Products we like Treluxe (whole line) ,Melanin hair care leave in , Tabitha Brown leave in, Curls blueberry bliss shampoo. Miss Jessie’s coily custard. But everyone is different with what they like. On days when she needs a break during process, I put conditioner on & shower cap & she does something she likes for awhile and then easier to go back to it. But usually we go through whole wash time & wash & go and she’s happy during & after. We use As I Am JBCO water Restore spray throughout week to refresh when needed. 💕💗🤗

She is more of 3C/4A with shrinkage. Her hair is more prone to tangles. Section into 4 or 6 and pre poo her first. Works wonders for my 4 year old niece. Spray with water and use a detangler n let it sit a bit. Then comb through it with wide tooth. Twist each section up as you go through the shampoo and conditioning process. So much easier and less hassle. This is also the time we alot for tablet time. Many kids go through the washing hair pains at this age, its normal, but structuring wash day will make it a smoother process

Detangle with a lot of conditioner in the hair, wet, with a wide tooth comb first. Start from the bottom of the hair and slowly work up to the scalp. Go from a wide tooth comb to the pick and then to that brush in phases for each section. Use alligator clips or butterfly clips to clip sections out of the way to make it more manageable. Clip all hair out of the way, only start with a small section and then as you do the whole phase on that area & finish, clip it out of the way, move onto the next. I don’t know why this is about to bring me to tears. We are for certain our daughter is autistic even though her doctor is saying otherwise we know our child. I’m gone keep on praying. We end up cutting baby boy hair off because he was so upset. I’m so mad at myself I let baby girl hair get tangled so now I’m paying for it. I definitely suggest putting her hair in about six large sections and then washing each section one at a time and re-twisting with conditioner. Then comb through to de-tangle with the conditioner still in her hair (one section at a time). Then rinse and re-twist. Then add oil and/or leave-in conditioner and finish any de-tangling section by section again away from the sink. Do everything section by section. This way her hair does not have the chance to dry out or tangle up further during the process. I hope these steps might help make the process easier on all of you. You do a wonderful job with her hair, it is gorgeous. I use a wide tooth comb to detangle. Leave in conditioner and still spritz water as you style is key. She has a mixture of 3c and some 4a and b in there. My granddaughters have hair just like that.

I use Pantene gold series conditioner or carols daughter wash day delight conditioner. It works great for detangling. Along with a good detangling brush.

My gosh. I wish I could be there to help you guys. A Denman brush works well for detangling. Mielle makes a hawaiian Ginger hair butter that works extremely well with softening the hair to detangle. It was like magic for my daughter's hair

Teamwork makes the dream work💜💜💜 I have found that detangling before shampoo with water and lots of conditioner with good slip, works great. Suave conditioner is inexpensive for large bottles. She has thick gorgeous curls. Try a tangle teezer you can get it at target and online.. they come in different colors, the purple one is specifically for curls. It’s a bit more expensive but trust me it’s worth it. It cuts detangling time down and doesn’t snag and pull as much as traditional combs. Hope this helps ❤
