I actually did a successful balayage on myself ONE time, somehow. I tried to replicate it a couple months later and just ended up with a bleached chunk, no seamless transition. There’s a magic to the method!

That second girl is right. The “toners” that are available to the unlicensed public really don’t come in levels. They’re all level 8-10, and usually the info about what level it is isn’t even available on the box. Their are Demi permanent hair dyes, but they’re not labeled “toner”, and there usually aren’t many blonde options, compared to the bottles labeled toner.

Hiya just here to say that my birthday was on Friday and I got my hair done! I donated 14inches and raised more than €800 for a charity called the Laura linn. While watching the video Brad mondo did for Charlie d’amilio I fell in love with it! So my cousin came over ( she’s a hair dresser) and did it for me and can I just say it’s such a big change I went very short as in my hair was down to my butt and now it’s above my shoulders!!! Thank you Brad and all the people who donated for such a great cause!

Sometimes I see so many balayage hairstyles and so many grown out bleached blondes that I swear people just pop out of the womb with dark brown roots and caramel bleach mids and ends lol - also this video is the perfect way to procrastinate my work, thanks Brad!

Anyone notice how these aren't balayage? Balayage is just painting on the lightener. These are just ombres and/or all over bleach with horizontal placement...not the vertical placement of balayage.

As someone who used to work at Sally’s, please understand that the wella toners are really one of the few options unlicensed people have. There’s the wella toners, the ion toners (which are wayyyy too strong), blonde brilliance toner, and then a few other toners here and there. At most sally stores, the wella toners are the best, most readily available toners with the largest amount of selections. The reason why all these Sally’s employees always recommend T18 or T14 is because in a lot of cases, it’s the only option

I love watching your haircut/hairdye disaster videos because I've found counterexample such an important learning tool! I've almost always done my own trims, haircuts, & dye because I'm disabled -- therefore too broke to afford regular salon services. Even though you were way more cynical about at-home hair experiments pre-pandemic, I always used those videos to up my game!! Since my partner trusts my hair research, he asked me to give him some silver streaks since he's insecure about the way his grays are coming in & wants a more consistent look. I'm thinking balyage will look great, since he already has defined ringlets I can pick & choose which ones to bleach/tone! I've always helped shave his undercut, but for him to trust me with hair dying, which he's never had done before? That says a lot to me. Thank you for keeping up the good work!! I swear, if I weren't chronically ill, I think I'd be a hair stylist. But... I' ll happily settle for making myself & my boyfriend look pretty & watching your awresome content! If I could afford all your products, I'd definitely get 'em. 💕

Most people use T18 for a white/silver hair result, which you can definitely use on your hair if it's a level 9 or 10 with yellow undertones, but it won't work on a level 8 if you want light silver/white. The most it'll do on a level 8 with yellow undertones is make it a softer near platinum blonde by cooling down the brassy yellows, which is what we saw the second lady. The person at Sally's is correct too, it is meant for undertones not levels, but you have to consider what it is you are going after. Level 8 is going to have a more prominent yellow compared to 9 or 10. So if blonde is what you want, you don't need to lift to 9 or 10, you just need the right toner, whereas if you want silver white hair, you need to lift higher than 8. Many people also make the mistake of misidentifying the level of their hair too, which is why T18 can be mistakenly used so frequently. And Brad is 100% correct. Each set of hair responds differently to lightening, coloring, and toning due to its history, how porous it is, etc. There are many variables that contribute to the outcome, but I'm glad the second lady had such beautiful results ❤️

I give everyone props for trying balayage. I did highlights on my sister’s hair a few months ago and it took me all day (I’m not a hairdresser). I did alright but you could clearly see the lines lol.

Probably not that employee's fault Sally's does a God awful job of actually training employees on proper color usage (like max there's an optional web training for it)
