I love how you mentioned the time. Never have I appreciated the $300+ cost of a hair salon until I made my own custom dread extensions the first time and when I say it took me months to cut, color, back comb, and knit each and every one to perfection I'm not even joking. And the crochet needles used for it? .03 to .07. My thumbs had cuts all over them. X3
@Emnms68
@Emnms68 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have a 0.05mm crochet needle for bead crochet and many of the reviews for it online we’re talking about how they used it for making dreads. The stitches are sooooo tiny it definitely takes ages to make any progress

That's often why things will feel unfair at the hair salon - like why do straight haired people have cheaper haircuts than people getting curly cuts, or why someone with naturally light colored hair pays less to go pink than someone with naturally dark colored hair. You're paying for expertise too, but often it's about time. If something takes twice as long as usual to do, it will probably cost twice as much. It's also why stylists who specialize in looks that take a long time have strict cancelation policies. If one six hour service cancels last minute, the stylist is out their whole day's pay! If they were instead seeing eight different 45 minute haircuts, and one of them cancels, they're only losing 1/8 of their day's pay.

Daughter of a hairdresser active in the nineties and early aughts. Before foiling was the highlighting cap. Mom would put that on and had a like knitting hook tool that she would pull strands through, apply over the cap so no cross contamination and be able to wash out the majority with the cap on as well. As the chunks get thicker between the 90s and aughts is when you can see the cap falling to foil ;)

I think it would look awesome. The downside of the big chunks is you need to keep doing your roots, because it grows out really awkward looking. But if you're down for keeping up with your roots, go for it!

My darling, Brad, I just love watching your reactions to these hair debacles. Your reactions make me smile and give me laughs as I am usually making those same noises while I watch. I need you to know about the T-18 cult following. I used to work at Sally beauty and EVERY person that had hair issues or was bleaching, the Sally rep said “Don’t forget your T-18!!!” As a nail tech I was surprised that they didn’t miss an opportunity to sell T-18 to ANYONE! I think they discussed it with all the other reps that T-18 is the cure all for any color issue EVER!!

Aw Brad! How I’ve missed you! Late 90s/early 00s, I remember, I was there. We got foils at the hairdresser as teenagers for $2 a foil. They were chunky as heck and you could go to TOWN with $30. Even still, I did mine at home, and my friends lovingly called it bird s**t hair, and it was epic. I still kinda miss it. My mum helped and we left it on for ages, so caramel kinda turned into platinum streaks, but I looked like James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins and it was freakin AWESOME! I was almost accidentally cool. Fun times…..😂🤞🏻😝🎩🐯🙏🏻🎃💕❤️

I did my sisters hair like this in the late 90’s! She loved it & everyone at her school loved it. Long before I did that, I used to do in myself what they are now calling “money pieces” in 1994 but I did them chunky and blunt, not balayaged. Thinking of doing it on my daughters hair now! I also used to bleach my blunt bangs and some chunks on the sides.

Ex hairdresser wh was in the salon from 94-99. We didn't do the foils down to the ear in a section. We just did it past the rounds of the head. :) You won't see this, I'm sure, but that's how we did it. I'm thrilled to see it come back. :D It was so fun!

I remember the chunky highlights. Did it when I was 15/16. My hair was cut short in the back and long in the front. When we'd get our hair cut on vacation we had a stylist in Canada we always visited and she always convinced me to let her run wild with my hair. I kept it up for maybe 4 years before ditching it. I don't miss it.
