The border region is poor poorest part of DR becuz it's close to Haiti..., but Santo Domingo is like Miami mixed with the Bronx (in the hood it's like south Bronx with palm trees, but in the good areas it's like the decent parts of Miami)

The border region is the poorest part of DR, because of it's closeness to Haiti, it's neglected, no economic growth or input, well-off Dominicans don't want to live there, because of this proximity which is seen as bad due tensions with haitians and common knowledge that these areas would get most effected by Haiti's problems compared to other areas of DR. Middle class and well-off/Elite Dominicans, corporations do not want to invest in the border region, they prefer bigger cities in the center of the country, Santo Domingo, Santiago etc
