Its one of the best representations of style over substance. The truck with speakers is indeed the wardrums and guitarguy is I believe even called Harbinger for it. That truck represents that a monarch has gone to war with his legions. The wasting of the resource that is otherwise to closely guarded is a sheer show of force and intimidation. One of the best bits of world-building in Fury Road was the steering wheels. Detaching the steering wheels like that seemed like an anti-theft system used by Joe to keep anyone who wasn't trusted from leaving his area. Told you a lot about the world without anyone actually saying it. My only gripes with the movie are that there wasn't even one person with a mohawk, and that we didn't get to see more of those creepy stilt people. Miller takes Bogan Australian car culture obsession and literally makes it a religion. Genius. If you have played the Mad Max game, to which the devs had a lot of access to Miller’s notes - you see just how detailed and obsessed the various car cults are about their vehicles, like the hood ornaments treated like superstitious talismans etc. its amazing the world George has made here. If you look carefully at Immortan Joe’s dash board its literally covered in hundreds of different car badges. Crazy detailed world.
@Mechsrule18 жыл бұрын
The theory I've heard about mad max is that these are stories told centuries after the fact, and are just legends. Multiple events are attributed to this one guy who may or may not have actually done them. The discrepancies are a part of this, and disagreements about the order and what not of the actions of this mythical character.
@Skippy198128 жыл бұрын
+Scootaloo 009 I never really thought of it like that before. The bonkers continuity was something that always bothered me about Mad Max, but thinking of it as a legend being muddled over time makes me look back on the series more fondly.
@MP1977428 жыл бұрын
Yes, but not from centuries in the future, just decades. The Road Warrior is the legend being told by the boomerang kid once all grown up. And Beyond Thunderdome is the legend being told the oldest girl in the group of kids to the next generation as they try to rebuild society. It's kind of presented that way at the end of each movie.The original Mad Max though is just normal pre-apocalypse story, though it points strongly at society being in a state of decline. There's no sort of legendary aspect to that one.

If you made a metaphoric photo negative of the Star Wars prequels, this is what you would get. Full of action without being full of mind numbing clutter. Full of heart and characters you relate to and characters you root against, without getting bogged down in exposition or sappy, meaningless dialog. I'm surprised by all the complaints about Fury Road having no story and not making sense. Sure, they don't have a huge amount of dialogue explaining everything but they tell you so much through the visuals. Like all the complaints about how it makes no sense for them to be so wasteful when resources are so scarce. But that's the whole point. It's conspicuous consumption, that's what a lot of dictatorships and failing societies do. It's why dictatorships like North Korea waste money building useless crap like amusement parks when half the population is starving. They show you how Immortan Joe has built this religion around himself. He's trying make people think he's a god. So everything is about maintaining the illusion of power. He wastes fuel and resources people need to survive because those things don't mean anything to a god. The movie may not have dialogue explaining everything but all the clues are there for the audience to figure it out by themselves.

Why did she take the women? Did she not want to escape? Why piss off the guy by taking his wives and get a whole war party on your back? Was it just to piss him off? Did she think it would take a while before he would notice? But why risk it? Why did the evil leader go straight to his wives when he learned that she had deviated from her course? Did he suspect that she had stole his wives? How on earth did she get them out if they're so valuable to him? Why did that guy from _about a boy_ need Max's blood, then no longer need his blood, and why did the loss of blood not effect Max? What happen to her arm? What did she seek redemption about? Was she the one involved in getting the girls locked up as breeder slaves? Did she help him become leader, or do evil things? Could she not have helped some of the many people dying of thirst? Who was the fat guy with nipple chains and where did his gang come from? Why did the about a boy guy turn good and so easily? Why did the women become leaders at the end? Was she high ranking before, as the men did keep calling her 'boss'? Is that why they became leaders? But is she not considered a traitor, why did the men not attack her when she came back? idk, this film made no sense. just action or action's sake.
@KingOfMadCows8 жыл бұрын
A Koala with Shades A lot of those questions are explained pretty plainly. Furiosa was taken from her home and she's thought about returning and getting revenge on Immortan Joe ever since. They called her imperator, which is the rank of commander, so she was clearly in a position of authority. Immortan Joe also praised her in his speech so she has his trust. They tell you that pretty much everyone in the wasteland is sick. The Warboys are all dying, you can see how they have tumors and deformities. That's why they need transfusions. That's the whole reason why the Wives are important. Joe wants healthy heirs. The fat guy is the People Eater. They tell you that Immortan Joe rules the wasteland with two other warlords, the People Eater, who has control over oil production, and the Bullet Farmer, who controls weapons production. Nux did not turn good easily. He was indoctrinated into Immortan Joe's cult since childhood and he worships Joe as a god. However, he failed three times and Joe rebuked him, that's like a devote Catholic being told by the Pope that they're not going to heaven. Nux's faith was shattered but his time with Max, Furiosa, and the Wives helped him see how he was being manipulated by Joe into being a slave soldier. The rest of the questions you can figure out by yourself by the clues that are there. You can't expect movies to explain every detail to you. No movie does that. When you saw Batman, do you question how he was able to build the Bat cave by himself with no help or why he doesn't donate more money and resources to the Gotham police or why they don't try to fix up Arkham or shut it down, etc.? When you saw the first Star Wars, did you complain about them not explaining the senate or how the Empire took over or why Darth Vader is in that armor and breathes like that or why no one believes in Jedis and the Force even though they've protected the Republic for a thousand generations and were only wiped out in the last 20 years so everyone over 25 or 30 should know about them or why the Death Star doesn't have any railings, etc.
@Akoalawithshades8 жыл бұрын
***** You can't create a world so disjointed from reality and expect no one to question it. All of what you answered was either your own interpretation, _mildly_ presented in the film, or ambiguous. Such as what rank is she? Is it just leader of the convoy? She's clearly not emperor, so they're not using the word strictly.
@KingOfMadCows8 жыл бұрын
A Koala with Shades They make it pretty clear in the beginning of the film that Furiosa is high ranking by having Immortan Joe praise her, showing how he had command over her war band, and showing how the Warboys with her were unquestioningly loyal until Nux tried to attack her. It's no different than the ranks in Star Wars. What ranks were Grand Moff, Darth, or even Admiral? If Vader was supposed to be the Emperor's second in command, why was Grand Moff Tarkin able to command him? Same thing with the rebels/senate with princess/senator/general Leia. They don't give you a detailed description of the different ranks or their authority and responsibilities but let you figure things out by yourself.
@Akoalawithshades8 жыл бұрын
+KingOfMadCows The 'war' band was a very small group of men, so clearly was not meant literally, therefore it it neither secures her rank as a general of sorts. But it's only an issue because it makes the viewer wonder why she was so trusted yet rebelled seemly, in the eyes of the main antagonist, out of no where. She neither seemed to have any connection with the men, the wives appeared to have more connection with the other warriors. Hard to really understand what exactly is her motivation was, that is, a specific event or elucidation of her treatment under his care. Instead it was just two hours of cars blowing up in one direction, then blowing up again in the other direction, with the bad guy inevitably dying near the end of the carnage. And why bring up star wars? Obviously Vader was second to the Tarkin guy, the Emperor as a character I don't believe was created yet. This why Vader gets more authoritative and darker, rather than just acting like a general, or a leader of the foot soldiers. It only becomes an issue because Lucas apparently couldn't be bothered to re-watch his old films and make sure that his news story fits the 'sequels'. As such I'm unsure why you bring up the prequels. Oh another thing that annoyed me. How did they know Max was universal donor?

Believe it or not, this is a movie where I genuinely feared the explosions rather than cheered them on as they expect us to do in most Michael Bay movies. Seriously shows how much I genuinely feared for the character's lives as they sped down the desert. Only a rare movie like this could make me feel this way.z

meh, having only seen mad max 1 and recently finally watched this, i cant give it more then 6 out of 10, lots of stuff doesnt get explained, lots of holes in the story, clearly recognizable cgi, I was honestly pretty disappointed considering everyone and their mom seems to love this movie, I went "what even.." at least 20 times, only really giving it a 6 because of the fact they did do most stunts, did build all those wacky vehicles etc, that got them a bonus point. At the bottomline it was a kind of boring movie where nothing really happened, with some action scenes thrown in to help pass the time... long reply short: not even the best movie of 2015, forget best of decade

I hear some theory that Max is supposed to be a post apocalyptic folktale hero, thats why the continuity is pretty much non existent because its supposed to be told from the perspective of the people telling this campfire tale character called max. I think that made sense, at least in road warrior it does

I heard an interview about the continuity of this world where it was basically implied that these stories are being told like 300 years later about a savior-like figure with a growing mythology. So, as people would be prone to do in a relatively primitive world over three centuries, the details get blurry and confused and exaggerated. I think that's a pretty cool and good way to go about it and explains all the continuity "errors" of what characters were in each place, etc.

Charlize Theron spoke to the question of whether this was a "feminist" movie in an interview at Cannes. She said that nobody went into it with a feminist agenda but the act of being truthful about strong women in that world meant it accidentally ended up coming off feminist. I've been thinking "Didn't we hear all this palaver about Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in 'Alien' back in '79?" Yes indeed we did. Fact is, in the post-apocalypse world, the only women who won't end up as slaves are the strong ones. Among the party who escape, the youngest one begs to be taken back into captivity because she can't take the outside world and would rather choose to be a breeder in a gilded cage. This film's got depth- it shows all types. The only thing that bummed me out about this awesome (in the true sense) Mad Max movie was the fact the title character got to drive his Interceptor for all of 2 shots before he rolled and crashed it (again). Could we please have a movie where Mad Max drives his own freaking car from the beginning till the end, or do I have to play the video game to get that?

Goddamn, I just finished watching Fury Road. That was incredible. I agree with Fat Hack and Hack with Stupid Hair: I was more engaged by this movie's story AND action that any film in years. The first 5 minutes of watching MM:FR on my TV at home got me more riled up and shouting at the screen than 2 hours of Force Awakens in a theater did. I can't recommend this film more highly. Also, for the MRA douches, realize that Charlize Theron's character is less in control of the plot and has fewer good ideas than Tom Hardy's character, not to mention being unequal to him physically in a number of ways. Theron's character is the "main" character of this particular story, but Max is the main character of all the stories. It's like Max finds people who need his help and he helps them, like Magnum PI or MacGuyver. Mag/Mac/Max may encounter a cute girl who impresses him with her moxie, but once he's helped her, she moves on and we, the audience, stick with him. So relax your sphincters before they prolapse.

Over 5 years later, Mad Max: Fury Road is still one of my all-time favorite movies. Anytime I hear the music I get pumped and want to see it again. For such an over the top, bonkers action, high speed action movie I'm still impressed at how subtle and wordless the story is. Just a look can tell a lot. George Miller said the story should be clear to anyone watching, even if they don't speak English, and he absolutely nailed it. Also, first time seeing it in theaters I kept thinking, "how did no one die while filming this?!"
@dankestranch87382 жыл бұрын
Just rewatched this masterpiece of a movie
@TheWaynos7310 ай бұрын
What separates this movie from so many post apocalyptic movies is not only just the crazy fetish detail of the vehicles and the world - is that Miller gives his apocalypse its own unique language and lingo, which is sprinkled all the way through all the Max movies. Even the first Max film has bonkers bat shit crazy dialogue. Next time you watch the original 1979 film turn the subtitles on, theres all sorts of crazy detail in the background like the hospital PA barking ‘Hospital vouchers will be available again soon.’

Honestly, Mike really underestimates many old women's toughness in the real world. The fact that of everything going on in the movie _that_ was something that kicked him out of his suspended disbelief is wild
@Corellian Жыл бұрын
He might not have any examples of this in his life, I'm fine with that. Otherwise I agree, the toughest people I've known are my mother and grandmother, small in stature but able to walk for miles, carry heavy loads, skip meals so others could eat, and cope with whatever hell life presented them with. They didn't succumb to alcoholism or heart disease because of it. They cried their hearts out, hardened and moved on.
@TK2692 Жыл бұрын
I agreed with him the first time I watched it, but I watched it more carefully the second time, and I realized that the old ladies that didn't really do anything unrealistic. They mostly sat in or on the vehicles and shot guns, they weren't jumping from vehicle to vehicle and getting into melee fights or anything. The only lady that charged Rictus to try to fight him hand to hand got thrown over the side immediately. But considering how hectic those actions scenes were, I think someone can be forgiven for getting confused by everything that happens.
