In my humble opinion, this is one of the most powerful and beautifully written songs of all time!! This song was performed first less then 2 months after 9/11. In the midst of all that was going on to have the ability to articulate all those different perspectives and focus on the better parts of humanity rather the atrocities and revenge. Simply beautiful and still gives me goosebumps.

It was the first time I saw my mom cry. I was only in kindergarten and didn’t understand the magnitude of the situation but I knew it had to be bad if my mom was crying as much as she was. I remember she came into my room that morning and laid with me and cried. She just held me and told me she loved me. I remember asking what was wrong and she just said there’s some bad people doing some bad things right now. We got up and went to my church and put care packages together. I remember just standing and watching all the adults bow their heads and pray. My mom says she still cries thinking about it. I get emotional too. It was a horrific day that shouldn’t be apart of our history but it sadly is.

That day has never been forgotten for me as most of us. I was watching a cable news show that morning and it was live, saw the first plane hit. I was on the phone with my late mother in law. She turned it to the channel to see the accident I was talking about. Thats when 2nd plane hit. When that happened I knew the first one wasn't a accident. It rocked this country in such a hard way. It tore my heart and stomach to pieces. Was devastating to us all. How can we be so divided now..when we was completely united then.

I remember being in my 2nd grade classroom and the teacher rushing out. They told us that our parents were coming to get us and we were going home for the day. Normally kids are excited to hear that but I remember the classroom being deathly quiet, funny how kids know when something is wrong even if they dont know why. I remember seeing the towers smoking on our tv at home. My dad was overseas at the time. We couldn't get in touch with him and I remember my mom breaking down into tears when she was finally able to get him on the phone. I didnt really understand any of this at the time but it was so impactful I still remember where I was when it happened

They ended up sending us home from school. First off, I want to say thank you for doing a reaction to this video. I wanted to share with both of you the The history behind how he wrote this song. It’s very emotional and very special. Alan Jackson is a wonderful songwriter. Here’s what I found: The song is based on Jackson’s own experience on September 11, 2001. Jackson had finished walking outside and returned indoors to discover news of the attacks on television. He immediately wanted to write a song expressing his thoughts and emotions, but he found it hard to do so for many weeks. "I didn't want to write a patriotic song," Jackson said. "And I didn't want it to be vengeful, either. But I didn't want to forget about how I felt and how I knew other people felt that day."[2] Finally, on the Sunday morning of October 28, 2001, he awoken at 4 a.m. with the melody, opening lines, and chorus going through his mind. He hastily got out of bed, still in his underwear, and sang them into a hand-held digital recorder so as to remember them later on.[2][3][4] Later that morning, when his wife and children had gone to Sunday school, he sat down in his study and completed the lyrics.[2][5] Initially, he felt squeamish about recording it, much less releasing it as a single, because he disliked the idea of capitalizing on a tragedy.[6] But after he played it for his wife Denise and for his producer, Keith Stegall, both of whom gave their approval, Jackson went into the studio to record "Where Were You" that week.[7] On Stegall's advice, Jackson played the finished track for a group of executives at his record label. "We just kind of looked at one another," RCA Label Group chairman Joe Galante said later. "Nobody spoke for a full minute."[4]

My two sisters and I were sitting by our Mothers bed. She had been sick with cancer for two years. She went home on 09/13/2001, 2 days before her 64th birthday. I'll never forget that day, the anguish, the devastation and chaos. We had the volume down so she couldn't hear the news. That day I wasn't sad my Momma was dying, because Jesus said we would be with Him for eternity, she wasn't aware of what was happening in our country. She was going to her forever home, with no sickness, disease, hurt, pain, wars, devastation etc. The former things are done and we'll not remember then, and there will be no more tears.

Yes, it is powerful, too! I love that for years, when he sings it in concert; they have shown that big, beautiful flag behind him. Usually, he turns to look at it in respect, I think. He has said he didn't think he would be performing it for very long. Twenty years later, he still is! Fans love and expect to hear it. Now, most of the audience stands, cell phone flashlights swaying! He wasn't going to sing it because he didn't want to be taking advantage of the circumstances. Fortunately, his wife and others convinced him it needed to be heard! It was like someone put a huge Band Aid over our hurts!

My Mom called me to tell me also, I remember clear as day said turn on the tv !! She didn't even have to say turn on the news because it was on every channel, I sat there watching, I couldn't believe what I was watching I felt frozen all I could do was cry after I came out of shock !!! I didn't want to go to work but I had to, it was so hard because I worked with Children so I couldn't look or act sad around them. That was one of the hardest days of my life but what I felt so much sadness love and empathy for all the people that were in anyway a part of the devastation of that day. I can't believe its been 20 years sense it happened, please lets all keep them in our thoughts and prayers... God Bless 💗💗💗

I had just walked into a doctor's office and saw everyone around the TV set. When we first looked we thought that can't be really happing it was something someone made for a disaster movie but the people around said no it's really happing. What a tragedy. So many people died and it brought our country together and police, firemen and paramedics from all around came together and ran into the rubble and destruction to help people with no thought of the danger to their own lives. Prayers for the people who died and their families and thank you and you are real heroes to the public servants who put their lives on the line that day.

This song is important for those that remember that day because it not only reminds us of a historically significant day in a very personal connection but also imparts a lesson on why that day is so important to teach younger generations about the whys and wherefores of what happened and the results. I was getting ready for work (at an elementary school in AZ) when the news footage began. I had a father flying that day and was terrified he was on one of those planes. I also had an uncle working for a trucking company in CT that was making a delivery in NYC that day. My father was fortunate enough to not have been on one of the planes and my uncle actually saw the planes hit and the buildings fall all from his rear view mirror.

I was home from working nightshift watching the Today show and feeding my 1 year old and seen it happening. I was in shock and then 4 yrs later my 17 year old son had me sign him up for the army and he was deployed to Iraq twice. I was so proud and so scared that my son wouldn't come home. He did but lost a lot of brothers in the over there. It was a bittersweet moment for me being proud that at 17 he felt compelled to go fight for our country. I was proud but terrified at the same time.

I listen to this song often and it always takes me back to the day (I'm British btw) and the emotional reaction resonates with me and the reaction described, I can't even imagine how it must have felt as an American with that happening in your country, it still surprise's me when I talk to someone who doesn't realize or is even aware of the importance of this event, I can't even imagine anything more shocking and tragic that resonated around the globe, it still almost feels like it just happened, not 22years ago almost

I absolutely love this song, it makes me tear up just thinking about all of the innocent people & children that died in that attack. I remember exactly where I was & how it made me feel. My daughter was born in May of that same year in Florida, my ex's mother told me to check out the news. When I saw right after the first plane hit I automatically started crying & praying for everyone in the twin towers and their families. Then I picked up my daughter and held her close and cried, every time I hear this song I bow my head in respect for the ones that didn't make it as well as everyone involved.

As soon as the second plane hit the second tower, my husband and I were starting to load up our van with dog food and 4 Search And Rescue Dogs with Cadaver training. And by noon EST we were on the road to New York to Ground Zero. He wrote this song about 3 weeks before the Country Music Awards, where he performed it for the first time. I was doing double duty. Because I was a Paramedic at the time, I retired last year after 37 years of service. My husband died of Cancer, the doctors and I suspect, to what he was exposed to at Ground Zero. May every family who lost someone in this tragedy know their loved ones were HEROES. Every single one of them. They didn't ask for this that day. No one did. I pray that they are all in the loving arms of their God of faith. Except for the pilots who flew those planes. They can go down for all I care. Stay Safe Everyone. Remember to try and help 1person. Even if it's to buy the a coffee. You never know what might come back to you. Kindness breeds kindness, hate breeds hate. I prefer to do the former and have that come back to me ten fold. Stay Safe Everyone! 💖 From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

This song always brings tears to my eyes. I was 21, a newly wed and in the Army. We heard it on the radio. We got sent home to pack. Waited around to find out what was going to happen not knowing if we were leaving, going home that night. One of the scariest times of uncertainty in my life. And I was half way across the country from my family.

I've listened to country music all of my life. I'm from the south, north Georgia. I would hear from people, that they didn't like country music. I can honestly say, there was alot more people back then who did like country music. Today, I 'am glad to see more people are checking country music out. There is alot of new songs that are really good. Country music fans love the songs of the past. They also like the songs of today. Once you've been raised on country music, it never leaves your heart. I hope many more people will enjoy the country music band wagon in the future.

I will never forget that day. I remember where I was. My grampa had just died and we were in Denver packing up his house. My dad had called and we all slept thru the ringing phone. Saw the flashing light on the recorder and could not believe what my dad was yelling about. Gramps didn't have cable and all we had was basic rabbit eared TV to watch. The drive home was unreal. Gas stations all along the highway had long lines of people trying to gas up out of fear for some reason. It was an insane reality I never want to live through again. NEVER FORGET!!
