The fact that John Astin outlived every member of the original cast is unbelievable. He will outlive all of us.

No disrespect to John Astin, but I expected Lisa to be the last surviving member. What is sadder is that if they are a real family, that means that John Astin had outlived both his children. I am glad to honor the original series and let it influence myself with their good qualities (including the love for the macabre🦇💀🕷🕸).

Rest in peace, Blossom Rock...she had a stroke that made it difficult for her to speak well and so she wasn't able to be in this Halloween special...I wish they had put her in anyway, and dubbed over her lines or something...she did get to watch the film from the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital...she died the year after it was made. @glamdolly303 жыл бұрын
Strange, wasn't it. It clearly marked her out as a bigger star than the rest of the cast. Which is bizarre for a fairly modest movie like this. It suggests to me the actress was quite grand! She was certainly not a bigger star than the great John Astin who played her husband Gomez. His resume of movies and TV roles is every bit as distinguished as hers. If I were him I'd have insisted on equal billing with her - but I guess he just wasn't that petty.

littlebit080780 Another thing I noticed was that in the movies, they seemed somewhat reclusive, while in the original series, they were very enthusiastically-sociable; always inviting people over and offering them bubbling treats. They were very upbeat and positive; just in a different way. I liked that.

@mytruepower29 жыл бұрын
littlebit080780 I think a good was to describe it would be that they're "aesthetically-distinct." There's a bit more to it than that, but that's the main thing. I'm also "aesthetically-distinct" in certain ways, so I sympathize with the original family. Like them, I'm often puzzled by the sorts of things other people like, and I think a lot of people are, really. But that doesn't make us evil. As you say, the Addams clan are generally nice to others. It's just a question of how they interpret "nice."

This may not be perfect, but I still like it. I like the little continuity nods thrown in throughout it. I love that Lady Fingers lives with them now ( so the relationship worked out for Thing. That's CUTE!). And I truly love to see "my" Gomez and Morticia being just so perfect again (John Asten and Carolyn Jones just are the two people i personally picture when thinking of Gomez and Morticia). I also truly had fun seeing Fester throughout this, and especially his "helpful" acts to the wannabe thieves. Plus, that song is great. Now I know a Halloween Carol. :) That said, yes, this special was not perfect. The plot makes very little sense, I see no reason for the existence of the new "main" family members and at some point there were just too many people in the same suit running around in that house! - And of course it is sad that Blossom Rock was too sick to reprise her role. All in all I am happy I found and watched this, though. Thanks for uploading.

I'm so thankful for this colored original Addams family ❤ I'm giggling everytime they talk about the lodge, the humor is superb 😂 I wonder if ever (let's say to be in real life version) Gomez need to attend the lodge's meetings, does he attend distracted in thoughts just wanted to finish it & go home to see Morticia or he keeps calling while doing stuffs inside 🤣

All of the original 1960s Addams Family reunited altogether here in 1977 ..reprising their roles all except the lady who played grand mama .n.who was a replacement..cause the original mama granny originally played by actress Blossom Rock..was too ill sickly in a hospital to play her role with the rest of the reunited original cast.. this new actress who played mama in my opinion didn't capture the wicked pitch with voice that the original mama had

Modern day Addams family portrays Wednesday as a teenage girl. In the original, she was just a little girl in her pre-teens. The earlier series paid more attention to the parents. Since, today's world is more youth oriented, they started focusing on the kids. But to me, nothing beats the movies from the 1990s featuring Raul Julia, Angelica Houston and Christina Ricci.

Skip to 1:07:56 “Christmas and Easter bring wonderful treasures, but spirits and pumpkins bring far greater pleasures! Phantoms and ghosts, make wonderful hosts, and every year they convene, to wish you a merry, shh, creepy, Halloween…Scarecrows and black birds are always together, spiders spin cobwebs in overcast weather, goblins are brewing and banshees are crooning, a weird, and ghastly routine, to wish you a merry, shh, creepy, Halloween…This is a night, of heavenly fright, witches on broomsticks are up to their tricks, and poltergeists wail to the moon - which looks like a silver balloon! Frankenstein’s monster is having a ball, scaring the gargoyles right off of the wall. Boogeyman pranks and our favorite guests, and children are king, and queen. They wish you a merry, shh, creepy, Halloween!" This song is soooo hauntingly sweet!! Why 'o why can't iTunes sell it?? 😌🎃

I watched this when it aired in 1977 and switched it off. Despite the reunion of most of the original adult cast, they couldn't live up to the original series. As mentioned below, the actors seemed bored, as if going through a reunion routine, or being let down at a class reunion because of the age factor. Perhaps the videotaping reduced their energy. Their mansion here looks too suburban, not "haunted" enough. It was interesting, though, the way Vic Mizzy rewrote his old theme to recall the original but make it as unlike it as possible - perhaps to signify the "new" in the "New Addams Family" or to circumvent whatever copyright issues lingered. (By the way, this would be one of Ted Cassidy's last appearances before his death two years later. Blossom Rock was too ill to reprise Grandmama, and she died the following year.) Thanks for posting this, for what it's worth.
