Canadian here. This show was a staple of after-school programming in the late 90s to early 2000s and pretty much everybody I knew watched it. Maybe it's forgotten in the USA, but up here, most people who were kids back then will remember seeing at least a few episodes.

The editing and cinematography in this show feels very “90s commercial”.

Glenn Taranto got John Astin's voice and mannerisms as Gomez down pat, and I was overjoyed that Astin is in the show as Gomez' father.

When John Astin jumped in and said "I'm back!" I got such chills.

About seven months before his passing, I met Michael Roberds at a convention. I still have the picture of his Uncle Fester, signed "Yours Awfully... " To this day.

I was born in 1990, I saw this and was like "I really don't remember this" which was shocking because I love the Addams Family but when I heard the theme, it unlocked something I forgot for years. Thank you for bringing this back to life, you brought back a memory from my childhood that was lost to time.

Mike Roberds was my acting agent for a good portion of the early 2010s. Bless him he was super sweet and a lot of fun. He passed away in 2016. My sister and I remember him fondly. RIP.

I love this series, it captured the essence of the original series. The movies made the characters too suave and sophisticated, but the TV series didn't take themselves too seriously and kept the fun-loving family atmosphere.

Currently watching this series after just watching the old 60's show and it is worth mentioning that all of the episodes of this series are based on episodes from the original. So much so that the original writers get credited for each episode.

I feel like this version of The Addams Family has the visual aesthetic of the 60s Batman and 60s Green Hornet shows, and I don’t know how it fits so well with The Addams Family. Speaking of the Green Hornet, you ever thought of doing a forgotten failures on the Seth Rogen reboot from 2010/2011?

You're not wrong, I forgot about this show but as soon as I heard the theme song a large chunk of memories were unlocked about that time in my life. I don't remember how I found this channel but I'm glad I did

The unexpected joke on Siskel & Ebert really got me laughing for more many minutes

I will always remember John Astin best as Dr. Putra T. Gangreen, "Angry" scientist. "I"m NOT MAD! I'M ANGRY! ANGRY! THERE'S A DIFFERENCE!!!"

As soon as I saw the intro, I instantly remembered this show from my deep subconscious. We used to watch Fox Family quite a bit, and this was probably my introduction to the franchise. The idea of casting the original Gomez Addams, John Astin, as the grandpa in this show was genius!

"You know what the Miranda rights do to me!" Now, that's a line I never thought I would laugh at.

You weren't kidding, I had no recollection of this series until the theme tune hit.

You can tell it’s a Saban production by the intro. Reminds me of Saban Power Rangers intros by how they smile at the camera

I remember hearing about how this was a dream project for the actor playing Gomez, and was quite thrilled he actually got to work with John Astin in a couple of episodes. Everyone here was having fun, and it really did the original series good. A great "update" as the term "reboot" didn't exist and wasn't thrown around as recklessly as it is today. My sister was quite afraid of that Fester arcade machine. Glad it was mentioned. I would like to see a future video discussing one of the two Addams Family cartoons by Hanna Barbera. I could never get into that 1970's one, as I HATED Lennie Weinrib's take on Gomez, making him sound like Clyde Crashcup (I forget the name of the actual comedian that character's voice was based on).

Because of Canadian content restrictions, and networks desperately trying to comply without actually making new shows, I don't think this show has ever actually left the air up here in leaf land. It keeps getting tossed out whenever Showcase or whoever needs something cheap to air at 6am. Reruns of it have bounced between at least five or six different channels. I remember liking it at first, then hating it because it became sickening seeing the same episodes over and over again for years. Enough time has passed though that I wouldn't mind giving it a rewatch.

Honestly, loved this one as a kid. It feels childish at times, but I think it was perfect in that way. Great retrospective!

I have a lot of memories of this one, YTV in Canada reran it into the early 2000's. Surprised it's still not on any streaming services. Its style really reminds me of other mostly forgotten Canadian teen sitcoms like Big Wolf on Campus for example. Makes sense considering its production.

As a Vancouverite, I can't tell you how wild it was to constantly see your hometown (or school, especially the schools) in so many of the kids shows I watched. I was too young to understand why the Addams family felt so familiar while I watched it every week and now I understand 😂

This was the series I grew up watching on YTV before discovering the original. Wish it would get some kind of a physical release along with Reunion.

Nicole is just so ridiculously perfect for Wednesday. Christina is a dream, never thought anyone could beat her after first seeing her as Wednesday, but dang, Nicole just hits it out of the park! Shame Nicole never got the chance to perform Wednesday in a good theatrical release.

I have fond memories of "The New Addams Family" series, it was one air for quite a while here and part of my childhood/teens. I'm not surprised it's still on the air up here. Being Canadian we tend to hold on to Canadian produced programs... forever... just look at "Road to Avonlea", they had to replace the original children in the cast with new characters after all the kids in the town started hitting their twenties.

I'd never seen this and probably would have straight up avoided it after reuntion, but I love this Morticia and Gomez and I laughed actually out loud at Siskel and Ebert, so I'm thinking it's worth watching.

The Tim Burton Netflix show has the potential to be amazing as long as Tim puts his heart in it. It'd be pretty weird if he didn't have an appreciation for the Addams Family.

This show was actually my second exposure to The Addams Family. My first exposure was the 90's cartoon.

Two things: 1) shouldn’t this be „Almost Cult Classics“ with all the praise? 2) do you know what other tv-rights Haim Saban bought? I had the question after the TV-movie review and now that you mentioned it again, I remembered and got curious again … Also: Thanks again for another excellent video. Awesome as always.

I think the main problem with this series was that the movies were basically just too good, and it made this just feel like a cheap imitation. If this came out before the films then it would absolutely be seen as a fun update to the original series, but because everything was so on-point in the two films, then this felt like a cheap TV knockoff to try and profit from the films. Which wasn't helped by the production being very similar to Power Rangers - ie, very goofy, full of sound effects and cheap sampled music. But you could tell that everyone was having a lot of fun with their roles which is always key on things like this.

Seeing the opening credits of this show again was like releasing a long forgotten memory. I only vaguely remember the show but that damn theme song got stuck in my head every time.

I honestly didn't think this show was all that terrible yeah it has its flaws why it didn't turned into a hit, but it was a step up over the Addams Family Reunion Movie. Though still not at the level as the OG Series and the two Live Action Films but close. Casting John Astin as Grandpa Gomez was a genius idea.

Another Canadian here. I adored this as a kid and a bit confused by the Forgotten Failures title given the immense praise about it! I watched reruns of the original Addams Family show from about the age of 2 onward and watched The New Addms Family the moment the show was released in the US. I know it's mostly forgotten, but I love it. I can't wait to share the franchise with my daughter. ❤

I found this series a few years ago and fell in love with it! Terribly underrated.

It was only two/three years ago that I remembered this show existed, as soon as I watched the opening I had mini flashbacks to it being on (I believe ITV) in the UK. Fun times!

10 years ago I was traveling through Vancouver with my best friend, when a girl we met took us to a comedy club for a charity benefit show for the Tohoku Earthquake/Tsunami relief efforts. Ellie Harvie was a special guest that night, and they introduced her as “Mortician from the New Addams Family tv show.” My friend asked “When did they do a new Addams Family?” to which I could only reply “....I have no memory of it” She did a set and then hosted the improv set and killed it! After the show she came up to the 3 of us and was incredibly sweet, thanking my friend for being an audience volunteer for the improv segment. A decade later, I see this video and YES. Joe. You have reawakened the repressed fever dream that was this theme song! Waves of memories came flooding in of watching Digimon on Sunday morning Fox Family and seeing the ads with the theme song running ad naseum on EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK. Thank you, Joe Ramoni, for unleashing this evil upon my psyche.....

Canadian, born in 94. Watched this ALL the time as a kid. It was a huge series here to kids on the YTV circuit. Watched it, literally for years and was more then shocked as an adult to find out there was only the one season. This NEEDS a physical release.

I watched the New Addams Family every time it was on. I wasn't a huge fan of this iteration but just a fan in general. I still remember some scenes.

It really is amazing to see how much the Paramount movies permanently altered the Addams Family canon in the form of Wednesday. In older adaptations, she was kind of just a normal girl character; sweet, quiet, with a penchant for things like bats and spiders. Christina Ricci's performance took it in such a different direction, making the character a dark, deadpan, pint-sized serial killer. The new Wednesday was such a show-stealer that every Wednesday Addams since, from the 90's TV series to the Broadway musical to the new animated films, has maintained this characterization. Also, minor nitpick; the Paramount films weren't the first to make Fester into Gomez's brother; they were originally made brothers in the 1970's animated series, and have remained as such pretty much ever since.

Fox Family Channel was such an exotic network. It was all over the place, and I loved it. Felt like the only network that was marked towards specifically millennials boys. Then Disney bought it, and it turned into this generic boring teen girl network in 2006

I remember as a kid this was actually my first exposure to the Addams Family.

I really wish this had a physical release because I really want to watch the whole thing. I always figured this show wasn’t that great similar to the Munsters Today. It actually looks quite a bit more enjoyable than that though. A true hidden gem it seems like!

I loved this show as a kid. I had no idea it was still being syndicated here in Canada. Can't help but smile when hearing the theme.

I never heard or watched this show, but I do remember playing the Uncle Fester's electric generator arcade machine as a kid at Funarama in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. It was one of the first arcade cabinets you saw when you entered the place. I could not beat it at the time as it was too much for me. I really would love to get my hands on one of those machines, but from what I understand, they're not easy to find. At least in New England and whenever I do see one, it isn't cheap. I still search for one to this day.

I always remember this show because it was really heavily syndicated from when i was in grade school up until like high school. I live in Toronto so it aired regularly on YTV several times a day. It wasn't a laugh riot but I watched it when it was on. Basically my line up for TV shows every morning before I went to high school was a rerun of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Pokemon Battle Frontier (later the Diamond and Pearl season) New Addams Family and then Lazy Town before I would leave so its safe to say i watched this on/off for well over a decade. I have good memories of this show, and yeah its running in syndication today. its a shame Michael Roberds who played fester died in 2016 he was easily my favorite

I haven't seen seen this show since it aired when I was a kid. To this day I still remember the theme song in its entirety.

I love how you mentioned the theme song living in some repressed memory somewhere and I was thinking "I don't remember this show at all, it's weird that I wouldn't know a theme song from this time period" and then you played the theme and that part of my brain woke up and started screaming. Very similar to what happened with another Saban show, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, which I had no recollection of the show but later remembered the opening and having had several of the toys when I saw a video about it on youtube.

This show came on right after I got home from school when I was 7. Good memories. Now I want to watch Big Wolf On Campus again.

This is gold! My first exposure to the Addamses was Barrie S.'s movies, and then it took a bit of effort to warm up to the original TV show... I think this 1998-99 series can be appreciated by the fans of either - or both.

I've never seen this before, but have been watching the old Addams family one of those free Vizio channels lately. Very cool to see John Astin as grandpa. He must have been fairly old by then but still looked and sounded very vibrant there. He and Raul Julia were both excellent as Gomez. I prefer the Morticia from the 60s because she was so small and cute that it actually gave her gothiness a little understatement and worked better for her deadpan character. Christina Ricci was the best Wednesday, hands down. It was more over the top but that was funny because the darkness came from a little girl.

I loved this series as a kid it's usually what I associate the Addams Family with as it was my introduction to them. I got to meet Gomez, Morticia, Fester and Wednesday's actors at a con a few years ago and they were so incredibly lovely and were excited my friends and I had done a group cosplay. I really wish they would drop this somewhere because I'd love to rewatch it.

Probably my first exposure to the Addams family characters. I remember really liking it as a kid. Don't remember much other than Uncle Fester trying to impress his date and Lurch accidentally stepping on Thing. Got a good laugh at the end where it was revealed that Thing was faking being injured and was 'dancing ' in his little box.

Now this, I actually remember! The theme song especially has been stuck in my head for about 2 decades now. This was the best when I was a kid, I'm happy to see it still holds up. Am I the only one who appreciates that they included Thing's actor in the opening credits, even though we only see his hand? Trust me: Billing, despite being something so simple, can get quite complicated in this industry.

I remember enjoying this version of The Addams Family as a kid and having a crush on Wednesday Addams. Fox Family brought a lot of memories growing up. I'd be curious if the fox family channel could be a mini documentary on this channel someday.

My neighbor as a child on vancouver idland was the mother of the actor who played lurch in the new adams family. He stopped by frequently and he was always super nice to my brother and i.

The first time I watched this show, I was 12 and in the hospital. All I remember was laughing hysterically and thinking that it was very funny. Then I watched it without the morphine and thought it was just ok.

John Astin is the greatest character actor of all time. In my opinion, the best part of the Addams Family.
