Strategic Analysis Australia Director Michael Shoebridge says Hamas “miscalculated” who would be by their side after causing the war with Israel.
Mr Shoebridge sat with Sky News host James Morrow to discuss the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
“I think Hamas miscalculated in two ways,” he said.
“The first way was … they thought the wider world might pressure the Israelis more effectively and stop the Israeli Defence Force from dismantling Hamas and its terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, that hasn’t happened, the Israelis are doing what they must do to return security to Israel.
“The other big mistake that Hamas made was to believe all their fellow travellers - the Iranians, Hezbollah, the Iranian by-proxy in Iran, and the Iraqi pro-Iranian pro-Hezbollah groups in Iraq and Syria.
“The only people that have really come to Hamas’ side in any meaningful way are the Houthi rebels in Yemen.”
