be aware that blue grass and developed by Bill Monroe and blue grass did not exist during the Carters time. Blue grass is often mistaken as "country music" but its a misnomer. Wildwood flower dates back civil war and before with the full lyrics lost to time. Thats why some of lyrics seem confusing because they are. To this day nobody knows what flower is a "myrtle". even maybelle said Peer insisted they record the song even though she said were not ready some of the lyrics are a mix" because such as at the start nobody knew or knows that the lyrics are. but zero bluegrass was being played till Bill Monroe approaching ww2.

all contributed. one huge breakthrough for roots of country was "Vernon Dalhart wreck of the old 97" before the Bristol sessions. it was big because except for marching bands people started viewing records as entertainment. wreck of the old 97 is a funny one since each time it was copied the speed of the train kept increasing 5mph or more. even though its known the speed of the train was about 55mph. later it was up to 90.

Randy Scruggs did this song in honor of Mother Maybelle, he didn't try to make it fancier or do runs she didn't do, he obvously had the talent too but he honored her by doing it just as she did. It is one of those songs that if you are going to try and do it is always best to do it the way she did it, you can mess it up in a lot of ways but you can't find a way to do it better. We lost him almost three years ago, a really talented man.

I see what you mean, Roy. I just watched it for the 2nd time and enjoyed it even more than first. i thought the tempo wasn't like the original but the feeling they put into the tune is what matters. It's a beautiful version !

i learned to play along w. Joan Baez and she and Fred Hellarman sort of set the tempo( lightning fast), and on a good day I can still keeep up w. them. Never could get the right swing and tempo like Maybelle. SHE OWNS IT!!

@@rosannecash1701 ole john was a very great man, he did you proud, how about you helping out a poor boy and recordings this song I wrote. I was driving down a country road Not going anywhere I passed a farm house on the right I had to stop and stare It reminded me so much of home We had when I was a kid With mom and daddy sitting on the porch Was wondering where I'd been I'd tell them I was honest A truthful and loving son I got back home when I was told I wasn't hurting anyone They would smile and clap there hands Follow me into the house I'd say I love you truly and sit down on the couch The years have come and gone I wished they could have stayed Mom and daddy are in Heaven now Soon I'll be on my way If Heaven holds a place for mother I'm sure she is just fine The lord He blessed us one and all He's standing by her side A golden crown sits on her head As she walks that final mile To see the Father on His throne And His welcome home smile Written by Randall Hutchcraft. For Mother, is the title of song

This song is a delicious thrill in the back. The northern part of the USA has got money and power. The southern part has got a soul and wonderful musicians: Johnny Cash, the Carter family, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, ZZ Top, Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jerry Lee Lewis Buddy Holly, Charlie Daniels, The Blue Ridge Rangers, Little Richard, John Denver, John Lee Hooker, Dolly Parton... And others I've forgotten or I don't know. Anyway, Cheers to Dixie from Switzerland!

I totally agree, lots of great singers and musicans, but also a lot of great writers! (Faulkner, O'Connor, Barry Hannah, Lewis Nordan etc.) The South seems to be the most cultured part of the USA, notwithstanding its history of (racial) violence. Maybe this view comes easier when you're from Europe (I'm from the Netherlands).
@Thiggman-cs6wx7 жыл бұрын
The north had and has a history of racial violence. Rocks were thrown at integration buses in Massachussetts, black people cordoned off into ghettoes of poverty, violence, and police brutality, and the North is where all of the racial riots are. The history is readily available for anyone who wants to know the much harsher truth than South=bad and North=good.

It depends on where you draw the boundaries. Chuck Berry (r.i.p.) held from St. Louis--a part of the original New France and not southern by anyone's standard. Bob Dylan hailed from Hibbing Minnesota. I myself was born and raised in Georgia but have spent the last 50 years in Canada--the land of Robby Robinson, Neal Young, Stompin Tom, Neal Pert, Hank Snow and Joannie Mitchell, to name a few musicians of wonderful soul
