Have you ever set the time super aligned just to find out when the seconds hand reaches the 12 marker that the minute hand is not properly aligned? Try this!

Thanks for the tip. I experienced the issue you addressed about 20 minutes ago.

What about when the hour hand is off?
@Geohara2 жыл бұрын
I had no idea about the risk of damage if changing date between 9 and 3. Glad you mentioned it. Thanks.

Interesting tutorial, with the first steps made to avoid setting the date between 21 and 03H. The going 5' further, and then 5' back is a more original step however ; I've read somewhere that it was better only to set the time forward. So it seems everyone doesn't say the same about that specific point ! ^^

is that normal that mechanical watches have this gearslack when adjusting the time backwards and then forwards? That the Crown have a little free movement and the hands are not moving?
@watchroll33102 жыл бұрын
Is normal but on more expensive watches the gap is smaller

thank you a 1000 times :))) i thought my new tissot would have to go to le locle for a service because the minute hand was always on the incices when 30 seconds passed. now with your tutorial everything works just wonderful. so why is that? are seconds and minutes not synchronized? You got my like my comment and my sub :) thanks again.

Thank you so much! this is because the gears engage in a healthy position

@@watchroll3310 How come you set the time 5 minutes past then go back to the current time
@tronlinestream Жыл бұрын
Sieko manual states to turn back the minute hand and then advance to the correct time.. what you have shown seems to be other way around which is to set advance and go backwards

It turns out it depends on the movement. Depends on how the gear is connected to the second and minute hand and on which side the play on the gear is on. In my experience, you set seiko forward and miyota backwards. I have no experience with swiss movement yet but apparently you set it backward based on this video. To test your watch basically set your time forward or backward and check the next minute if the minute aligns again when the second mark hits the 12.

That aligns the date not the second hand? How do you align the second hand when it’s between the hours?
@watchroll33102 жыл бұрын
if I understand, the same way just don't change the date when the hour hand is between 9 and 3 pm.

Is there a method to align the second hand properly or will this adjustment do the trick as well? My quartz’s second hand is off by a hair’s width at the minute marker! Please let me know what can be done. Thanks ahead! Pete :")
@watchroll33102 жыл бұрын
If this method doesn't work then your hour hand is not properly aligned from the factory. You would need a watch maker to align them.

@@watchroll3310 Thanks for replying. The watch’s hour and minute hands are good. It’s the second hand that is a little off consistently. Any way to fix this? Or is it the norm in Quartz watches? Pete :”)
@SirBeauJangles2 жыл бұрын
@@alwayspete No, it's not the norm. But in the present world of mass produced watches, there will always be some outliers that get passed by imperfect QC inspection with small misalignments. Additionally it's not rare to find that your second hand may synch exactly at 12 where it's normal practice to set the time, but it might run a fraction off with some markers around the dial while working normally. I'd invite you to look on this as a charming piece of individuality rather than a fault, because with the latter every time you look at it, this could remind you again of the "fault", and reduce your watch's standing in your mind. That's not helpful. Resetting hand alignment can't be done in all watches known to me without first removing the calibre from the case, disrupting immediately any warranty it might have left. And reducing its water resistance unless the technician can meet proper service standards. Such workers are far from cheap. HOWEVER. If your watch is something from maybe Omega or Rolex than that should be fixed by your retailer. But I'd be surprised if a watch of that level would leave the assembly in the state you describe.

@@SirBeauJangles Thank you Ian!! I appreciate your time, efforts and detailed reply! I like the way you think. It’s a positive angle to look at it. Very helpful. This could be the sign of human error. You guessed it right, my watch isn’t a luxury watch but a Casio, solar powered Quartz movement. :) It’s in warranty period, as I have just bought the watch online. So I was planning to send it to the authorised service centre. Should I have second thoughts about sending it over, with the water resistance issue once serviced? Thanks again Ian! Pete :”)

@@alwayspete fine watches, Casio. I have two, and the solar radio-synched digital 5610 is my go-to as a time ref. when others need set. The other is a lumpy great "Mudman" that I'd recommend to nobody! Good luck with this issue.
