I'm a beginner and still have a lot to learn. I couldn't take a carving class because my finances were bad. I am very happy with the inj video version. first and different from all the sculpting videos I've seen. I hope the next video will stay like this version. Thank you

@@voightengraving I have subscribed to your channel and activated all notifications on your channel. as in your video there are many obstacles as a beginner. and every country is different too. where in my place it is very difficult to get a graver that fits the pneumatic collet. very rare balls. to buy sharpening handles from Lindsay alone we have to think again because the taxes are so high. and how do we overcome all of that? we do with "D.I.Y". different location other solution. with your video version it opened my mind how from beginner to professional. thank you for sharing your experience.

@@voightengraving maybe you will wonder how I got my pneumatic handle from Turkey 😀😀. even I still can't believe it until now. What is clear is that there is no way I could pay for all of that but God provided an unexpected way.

I understand. The tools are very important but we must always remember that the great masters of the past didn’t have what we have. I hope my videos will continue to help you along. Thanks for your support!

I just took an introductory stone setting course at GRS this last week. Hoping to incorporate it into my Knife Making and engraving. Also, I enjoy watching you work!

When I first took up the craft I too was self taught and at first clueless, but, once I learned how to sharpen properly and got a scroll master kit for layouts I went from novias to master in about one month, just kidding, graving is a controlled mistake start to finish. The better you get the harder it is to see the mistakes.

Sharpening was my downfall at first. I just didn’t even understand the importance and function of the heel.

Thank you for uploading this, I’m glad you mentioned your process and how long it’s taken, this is motivating. I just started and I’m finding it difficult to see my work while engraving. Is investing in a affordable microscope crucial ? I’m also not able to transfer properly using a brother laser ink printer with acetone / varnish with transparency paper/regular paper. Wondering if you ran into this problem.

Thank you for your comment. I do recommend spending as much as you can afford on a good microscope. It will help greatly. I’m very happy you mentioned transfers. I will post a video soon on the method I use to transfer. It’s the best method I’ve found so far.

I have been interested in doing this for quite some time but wasn't sure how to get started, I find myself wanting to get into things and buying some equipment just to end up finding out I need a lot more equipment that I wasn't prepared to purchase. Any tips for someone who just wants to practice on small pieces, I am curious how much I might need to spend and which tools are a must.

Thanks for commenting. The most important piece of advice I received when I started is to take the time to learn to draw scrolls perfectly. This way you learn one of the most important things about engraving before ever investing in expensive equipment. If you find that you really want to take the next step then I recommend finding a class or a teacher before you buy. This way you can try engraving before you spend a lot of money. To start I invested close to $4,000 including a 5 day class.

Hi Justin, thank for you Videos, they are very helpful :) What is the grey stuff you are using to fix the engraving piece?

It’s called Thermoloc. Its a thermoplastic the softens when heated and becomes hard when it cools. It’s available through GRS and Amazon.
