I like his language. Half awake this morning before my second cup o java, I thought I heard him say: “His wife divorced him because he was suffering from “bullet failure,” but when he tried a hotter load, she suffered ‘overpenatration.” Now he has to pay her monthly “antimony.” Stay safe, guys.😂

Great stuff as always brotha! Love nerding out on this type stuff! Always looking to learn more about the what and why works best, esp out of my carry gun, the Sig 365. I know my G17 and Beretta 92 have more leeway w the extra barrel length than the little guy. Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend. Stay safe out there brotha!

Very well said, as always, except the way Uncle Freedom spoke about Antimony Ok, to clarify, here is it explained. Antimony is ADDED to lead to increase it hardness. Soft lead core bullets like that Hornady 300BO or the mentioned 9mm /147 gr are probably just pure lead cores. (Lacking lead antimony) The softest is "pure lead" on the Brinell scale (is about 5 BHN) Normal average bullets have a very small amount of antimony to increase lead hardness. This very small Antimony percentage of like 1-5% is needed in most bullets to get them up to a 14-16 BHN or more. As opposed to subsonic type bullets, of soft pure lead or very miniscule amounts of Antimony. Everything else was said perfectly clear and factual as usual by Uncle Freedom! Like Uncle said, this is THE major problem with 380ACP and 45 ACP hollowpoints. Unless they are perfectly designed they either don't expand, or expand instantly and then don't penetrate. To get expansion AND 12-14" penetration is very difficult on these 2 calibers because of their low subsonic speeds of 1100 or less FPS. I will be happy if I can come up with or find a hollowpoint that can merely penetrate denim, and achieve 12" in gel with expansion.

Many years ago, I got curious as to what a Golden Saber bullet looked like outside of the case, so I inserted one round of 230 gr. .45ACP into my kinetic bullet puller and went to work. After a few whacks, I took it out of the puller to examine my progress and noticed that the core had started to separate from the jacket. Hoping that the jacket would let go before the core fully separated, I reinserted it and continued. Nope. The jacket-scored core soon popped out leaving the jacket in about the same position inside of the case as when I'd started.

Great video uncle and yes you are correct in so many ways I hear many people say technology for the 9 mm is also in the 45 ---- WRONG This is why most all handgun calibers penetrate and expand at about the same rate . it's that fast bullet made one way and the slow bullet made another otherwise both would work terrible . There is absolutely no statistics on Hollow Point opening that were pulled from a person none at all , I have read from way too many ER people that say hollow points do not open . Carry any caliber that you can handle well , as shot placement is everything , otherwise you would need a bazooka

Man, so much to think about. I have pretty much decided to go for the critical defense for my 9mm sig p365xl. Can I really go wrong with that? Or is there just a superior round. P.S - I'm in Colorado and heavy winter clothing is definitely a thing.

Very cool summary. In other comments I have argued that if cost is not a factor, a 9x19 +P 68 grain Lehigh XD would be the perfect Law Enforcement load. What’s your view on that? I am running a converted Glock 35 in 357 Sig with Lehigh XDs 68 grain handloads as my hunting secondary. But that’s obviously not relevant experience related to my question.

I love the XDs but I lean more towards the 90gr still super fast the weight helps it drive a bit deeper. I made a lot of guys believers in the XDs I always have a mag of them on hand for whatever gun I'm running as my tertiary mag

@@unclefreedom213 Great to hear. You run a proper 5.56 as your patrol rifle, but that round would be even more important for LE and private citizens that had the idea to run a 9x19 PCC. As you say in your vid there are just too many bullet designs that might have way too shallow penetration or turn into a frag grenade at 1.400-1.500 ft/s. No such issue with the XDs 😁

I got 147gr pulled hst bullets and was playing around with different loads. I don’t have a chrono yet but with the load data i gathered i loaded some on the low end and some on the high end. I shot them at water jugs out of my 43x (3.4” barrel) and never had one fail to expand. Out of all the rounds i shot, they all stopped in the 3rd jug, and the expansion pretty much looked the same. I’m going to get a chrono soon so i can have more data.

Excellent table talk analysis on projectiles. I've mentioned before on other vids, but I believe the Lehigh XD to be the best overall performer. I would rank it at the top for consistency and penetration reliability through barriers. Nearly all of my pistols from .380 to 45acp use them save for one 9mm that I still have Hornandy 135gr duty.
