In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Defect. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Later on, he explains his decision for each card he chooses and why it's important to the build. Towards the end, he gears up for an epic Heart fight you don't want to miss. That act 4 elite fight was something else. Not only a kill on turn one but he drew all but 4 cards in one turn with a 37 card deck.

I just beat A19 with defect with the most basic deck. 3 orb slots a couple ball lightning a couple first orbs cards and core surge plus biased cog. Was surprised how well it did. Usually I pick up creative ai or echo form etc

I LOVE these two cards together but at act 2 you die VERY hard unless you have good relics and good blocks and damages

With the Defect I alwas try to get 2 upgrades asap: Zap and Dual cast being free. But that didn't seem to ever be a consideration for you.

with the recycle, it was better for this run for them to cost. Paired with mummy hand, you probably want to prioritise smithing something else :)

Electrodynamics has to be the single best card in defect's pool as it is the one that turns defect's most difficult fights (gremlin leader and reptomancer) into trivial ones.

echo form is the best card in the defect and also the strongest form card.

Tons of cards are the best at something, so no card is the best overall. Except Scrawl, that is just bullshit.

It's far from the best defect card. It's not great without focus which can solve multi enemy fights with frost. Sunder and hyper beam can also solve such fights and are better in low focus decks. I'd put seek, echo, chill, recycle, biased, defragment ahead, probably doom and gloom, equilibrium, hologram and glacier too.

I'm new to the channel old spire player but I noticed he's brought up clumsy alot and wanting to get it. I'm not sure the reasoning as to why. Can someone explain the clumsy thing? Haha

He has this year had a challenge for himself to win once with two copies of every card in his deck. At this point, it's just the clumsy curse left.

I wonder why it is that it’s almost always timbo for the act 3…. like I get that it’s a 66% chance but it feels closer to 100 tbh…. Literally every single video I watch of him beating the first boss I always say “and now you gotta beat timbo” and it’s true every single time…..
