In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Defect. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Later on, he explains his decision for each card he chooses and why it's important to the build. Towards the end, he gears up for an epic Heart fight you don't want to miss. I use a few mods for Slay the Spire. All of them are Quality-of-Life improvements and do not have any effect on the gameplay. Here are all of the mods I have active:
Slay the Relics Exporter, used for the live stream: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
Relic Stats, to keep track of how many times the relic effects happened: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
UI Sliders, to reposition the Discard and Exhaust piles, so that they are not hidden behind the camera: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

Map Marks, for path highlighting - here, typically, Green means an easy, intended path, and Orange or Red means a harder path that I might take if I get good rewards: github.com/casey-c/mapmarks

Not including reprogram buffing I think around ~20. With reprogram buffing 50 (the claw buff was probably around 30 or 40 but I dont remember)

I capped out at 45 for a Claw+ on the killing stroke against the heart. Given that the deck had 35 cards AND some Creative AI power madness going on, that was really fun 😀

I would like to point out that vajra made his last claw deal one extra point of damage. His last claw did 70 damage. Had he not gotten vajra from spear and shield, he probably would have won with a 69 damage claw.

That’s not true because the vajra added 1 str to every single claw hit in that fight. The numbers would have been completely different, not just 1 damage off

he played 39 attacks so heart would be at 33+39 health at the end without vajra and the 71 damage claw would have ended the fight instead.

Fairly certain this could have gone infinite if he took and upgraded Fusion, using Dualcast to get 4 energy from each Fusion and the Coolheadeds to draw back into it and push the Plasma to the front. Still an amazing deck and run with an amazing Smiling Mask, Abacus coming in hot and Claw popping off.

I'm new to slay the spire, but when playing defect I thought it was all about orbs and focus. Interesting to see a different and highly effective take on it.

22:08 First heart kill was due to a necronomicon MS combo. Use TURBO or agg, cast meteorite, deal 60 damage and gain 6 energy and 3+ plasma for next turn, draw cards to recycle meteor, keep rinsing and repeating

Buff for all of the bottle relics could be “at the end of your act you can choose to change what’s in each bottle.”

I've always felt Scrape was completely useless. This run is a great showcase of how it can be good (though I still think it sucks most of the time).

Sitting here screaming "GET THE MED KIT!" Then "Maybe I should of gotten the med kit" (Que crowd face slap meme) From what I have learned if you want a small deck with no exhaust cards then the med kit is your best friend. But that is just me.

I think streamline should have been removed much earlier, this run was a great showcase for some of defect's lesser used cards

I definitely agree with strike removes on defect being cracked When it comes to removals I think the saddest character is probably silent She has so many cards that are just better strike and better defend she wants to remove every strike and every defend every single run but she has more of them than everyone else

It’s so sad that the whole point of the silent’s starter relic is to dig deep into your deck turn 1 and have a higher chance seeing your best cards, but then you’re nerfed in a disproportionate way as her by having an additional strike and defend in your deck

Very true about Silent, her early damage is especially bad since she has no means of improving it with her starting deck besides the small amount from Neutralize, unlike the other 3 characters who get Bash, Dualcast and Zap or Eruption to help finish fights. I tend towards removing a Defend or two with her before Strikes since Neutralize and Survivor are both good blocking tools anyway and I'd rather see Strikes and those than a Defend. I get the idea they were going for with wanting every character to see the entire starting deck in the first 2 turns below A10 but it feels awful for Silent.

Admittedly, because she can gain dex easier than other characters, she can reliably keep the defends and pump dex to make them worth good block. But she does need the damage from strikes early on, sooo...

I just had a tragic end to my run today as defect.. I was feeling the strongest that I’ve ever felt as defect and I decided to take the event that gave me a normality and for some reason I think there was a glitch but I was given 2 normalities and I removed one at the shop directly after that event and my deck was really small and I drew the normality every other turn and I lost because I couldn’t block.. never had that happen to me before but I should have just beat the act 1 boss for the relic which I will do every time now because I don’t want to risk that glitch happening again..

Can rebound rebound itself if you play it with spinning top? ofc if you play another rebound before this rebound

I'd imagine so, yes. Rebound gives you an effect that activates on your next card play, and spinning top doesn't interfere with that effect. It's a similar interaction to burst and calculated gamble.

Probably would need more energy generation to go with the coolheaded cycling in order to play enough frost to rack up the blizzard damage.

Maybe calipers frost cycle a bit, and then reprogram so the damage scales up a lot higher per frost.

no, if you don't play a card right after it and your turn ends, rebound wears off. In its description it even specifies "this turn"

Suggestion: A lot of streamers are editing out the interaction with twitch chat for their YT vids. Perhaps that could be something for you Baalor? For more enjoyable watching. To shorten down the length as well as removing the unnecessary stuff.
