Time to change pace a bit (did I hear someone out there holler...'AT LAST', ha!!). Way, way back when I started out I was piling up quite a few favorite artists that I went back listening to over and over again! Elvis was, of course, one of the obvious choices, but when I first heard Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins (or 'Mr. Dynamo' as he often was referred to!) and his remarkable original band, The Hawks, whom later became The Band, belting out an almost breathtaking version of Chuck's "Thirty Days" (although they changed the title to "Forty Days") I was gone, long gone and soon managed to get hold of his first two LP's on the Roulette label! I've since cut covers of several of this Arkansas born 'wildie's' rockers, but will start up my special 'Mr. Dynamo' tribute by featuring one of his extremely fine ballads, "Lonely Hours"! Yes, those wild boys of rock'n roll did also cut some very nice 'slowie's' in their time, like "Hayride", "Someone Like You" and "Love Me Like You Can" and, consequently, "Lonely Hours". My version dates back to the early '70s and I still remember that I wasn't at all satisfied with the outcome of it, compared to The Hawk's original almost magical version and that's the reason why it's stayed unreleased all this time! I simply thought my voice sounded too strained and the backing (especially the drums!) too dry! But, as often happens, with time you can suddenly grow accustomed to certain tracks that you initially thought were 'bummers' and this is one of 'em! So I hope you'll enjoy it! Hank C… P.S. You probably have already spotted that I’ve uploaded this version before, on December 25, 2009, to be exact, but this is a slightly reedited version. I’ve also uploaded an instru version of this fine ballad not so long ago, in case you’d like to check it out.
