”Nothing But The Night” is indeed a rather dark and gloomy track that I once upon a time picked up from my friend W.O. ”Woody” Fleener of the Sage & Sand Co. in Los Angeles. Originally cut in 1960 by country ace Sterling Blythe, which had several real fine country slices on the Sage label. I was really goin hog wild back then vacuum cleaning just about every existing US roots based label still in existence and one of them was Sage & Sand. I got a special deal with ”Woody” Fleener where he would press up a lot of old unissued material for my Rock’n Roll Rarities Club by the artists associated with the label, a.k.a. Whitey Pullen, Clay Eager, Jimmy Patton, Lonnie Barron and so forth. Now, the actual recording here must’ve been made in the mid part of the ’60s, since I can clearly hear the Hagström guitar making ways in there, supported by a rather hollow overall sound. Not something that you would scream YES at in admiration, but still quite enjoyable nevertheless, with a bit of blues feel tagged to it. Enjoy...
