Having your father there to help and show you how to build your own house is something you will always remember and will mean a lot more too you than if you just pay someone else to slap it together.The house is looking awesome great work y'all.

I really like the symmetry. I would go with a house wrap then metal at the min. At most I would go with 1/4 inch ply, house wrap, metal. That would be properly done. I love me symmetry.

This reminds me of a time I helped my grandpa and his cousin build their retirement homes in east Texas when I was a teenager. I loved the time spent with them and the stuff I learned. I wish I have the money to buy my grandpa's house.....enjoy the experience.

Hannah and all she has accomplished and still yet to accomplished in her daily life. I'm NEW when I comes to watching yall on KZfaq but I gotta say I enjoy all your videos with the fishing and hunting and the family fun yelling bring to the interweb. I sure hope the issues with your back cuts you some slack, but I'm guessing you have ms. Hannah's home on your mind and the back problems are gonna have to wait. Nobody else has offered that I've read on the comments, but yall need any help down there I'll be more then happy to make a trip/vacation to the south. Doesn't matter whether it's for a day or for a week, the offer is on the table. Im pretty good with with hammer and nails, I know my way around hand tools and air tools. I'm 66 and I've got three slipped discs, severe arthritis, chronic nerve pain and had a laminectomy the end of last year when they cut a big chunk of your spine out trying to relieve the pressure on the nerves. I literally feel your pain. Probably facing more surgery because originally one surgeon wanted to put the Eiffel Tower into my spine. Building a house that size single-handedly is incredible. Take care of your back or you'll end up in a wheelchair.

Just a thought about notching those studs on the outside walls... here's an excerpt from a code guide: "A stud in an exterior wall or bearing partition shall not be cut or notched to a depth exceeding 25 percent of its depth. Studs in nonbearing partitions shall not be notched to a depth exceeding 40 percent of a single stud depth." Code inspectors will be taking a close look at that stuff. I'm not a code inspector, but I was a licensed Commercial and Residential Inspector. It's just that when your Dad said he was a bit worried about tornados doing damage, he's actually weakened the structure by notching every stud by what looks to be at least 50%. This is just for what it's worth department! Beautiful build! I hope your dad gets some healing for his back!

Yall are building a super SUPER stout house!! That's awesome!! I would say, that if you sheet the walls with OSB (plywood) 😊 it will give the structure waaaay more support and the spray foam will stick even better. Also it will increase your insulation value. I put Thompsons water seal on my subfloor almost year round in north west Montana, just save the subfloor until it gets dried in. Otherwise it swells up where it puddles. Y'All stay safe, and keep up the good work! God Bless!
