Hey y’all!
We have a small pond on our property that is absolutely OVER RUN with small bass. So we went fishing and did a little population control and got us a mess of fish to fry! They’re pretty small, so when we cleaned them all we did was scale them and remove the head and guts! Fried the whole fish, but when you eat them you have to watch for the bones! The tail is the best part! It’s like a fish tater chip ;)
We also had some frozen catfish fillets from some fish we caught noodling last summer, so we soaked them in hot sauce, battered, and deep fried them up too!
Hope y’all enjoy! It sure was some good eating!

This is actually spot on. I did fisheries management for many years and what you are seeing is a result of overpopulation. Bass will all end up around the same size. Very few, if any will get big. Pulling a lot from the pond is the right answer. Eating them is even better.

My mom would always cook and eat the whole thing that way too as stinky and dirt tasting as it was and she loved it. Not until she had some catfish fillets from my uncle (who taught me how to do them the easy way with an electric knife) did she realize they could be so much better and without tasting like the dirt bottom of a pond or river (tasted like how they smell)? Miss Hanna really knows how to cut out those bad tasting parts, very skilled. I doubt that the hot sauce would even be needed to make them taste better after that? I don't use or need any hot sauce for my fillets, but I'll bet that the way she and her daddy cook them is real?

Just a thought, but you should start 'culling' some of those smaller bass and let any larger ones feed on the smaller ones....a friend of mine has done that with his 3 acre lake here in Ga., and he's got some Toads in there at 9/10/11 pounds all day. You usually don't catch anything under 1.5 pounds....i pulled in several 3-4 pounders last weekend.

My pond has that problem with the fish runting out from interbreeding for way too long. The fix is to cull them all out completely and start over again with fish taken from elsewhere or bought from a fish hatchery. I need to do that again, been over 25+ years since I last done it. I threw all of them out on the bank and the raccoons had a real banquet feast for over a week!

I think the Southerners of the good ol' USA must be of Scottish descent, judging by the many examples of Southern cooking that I've seen. "We're cooking fish, deep fried!" ..."We're cooking pork today, deep fried!" ... "We're cooking beef right now, deep fried!" :) . World: You can't deep fry all foods Scotland and the Southern States: Hold our beers .... 😂

You dont know how right you are: Large swathes of the United States of America were subject to migration from Celtic peoples, or people from Celtic nations. Irish-speaking Irish Catholics congregated particularly in the East Coast cities of New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, and also in Pittsburgh and Chicago, while Scots and Ulster-Scots were particularly prominent in the Southern United States, including Appalachia. Gaelic speaking Highland-Scots also migrated in concentrated numbers to the Cape Fear River area in North Carolina and the fortress-town of Darien, Georgia.

You nailed it. Thus, many of the things we do and how we say them. An example would be how it is said, "She's a coming" instead of "she is coming." Scottish Gaelic throws in the "a". A Tennessee fiddle and the inability for someone in Tennessee to say "You." They say "Youins." There is no W sound or long O in Scottish Gaelic.

with them talking about eating the tail, it reminded me of when i was working at a country club in st. louis, we would dredge trout filets in cornmeal and fry those out up in a pan, then take the skin off (presentation and all), and we would put some extra cornmeal on the other side of the skin, then throw it in the deep fryer and eat it as a snack on the line, crispy, delicious, and the head chef didn't give a damn because he was just gonna throw it out anyway.
