Great video. My husband always gets comments from his work colleagues assuming that we must have a lot of money because we want to use the Montessori approach. I think it’s because the majority of people don’t realise that Montessori is simply a mindset, rather than having all these bells and whistles attached. Yes it’s nice to have some good quality toys, but we can just as easily recreate them at home with cardboard boxes, crafting supplies, etc. I think if more people knew what Montessori was, and used their own supplies, all these toy companies would have to reduce the prices of their products.

I don't have kiddos and while I may adopt one day, I'm not having any biologically for multiple reasons. Oddly enough, and despite the fact that I'm not a mama, I really enjoy watching your videos and am always struck by how lucky your daughters are to have you as a mom! It's great that you're helping other parents as well. The world needs all the good parents it can get :-)

Yeah it blows my mind how pricey Montessori toys/tools are! Maria Montessori started her child learning house for poor children. It was not intended to be only for rich kids, but today only wealthy families can send their kids to those school or afford the materials.

The wipe box thing is also fun for a child who wants to imitate mommy or daddy taking care of a baby sibling. S/he can take wipes for his/her own "baby". A coffee cup and straw makes a pretty good toy as well. I can even see how some of those cards can work well for older kids. Say you have a card with pictures of soap, a toilet, and a towel. They can put them in order: First you go potty, then you wash your hands with soap, and finally you dry your hands with a towel. Over time, you can add more cards and make it more complex. I'm all for finding materials that grow with your child.

I just found your channel and I love your ideas! I’m a sixty-two years old grandmother of four but I volunteer in my church’s nursery. I get so tired of the same old toys they have. They love handmade activities. (A Christmas tree with Velcro ornaments made from old cards)Now you’ve given me some fresh ideas that are so cost effective! And it’s fine if they don’t last, unlike a pricey toy that breaks. Thank you!

Hi Ashley I loved this video. Yours is the first of the montessori videos I’ve watched so far which stays true to the “most of the raw materials you can find at home” concept. All the ideas are simple and easy and sound like they’ve come from real kids (or maybe my child is a lot like yours are 😂) AND you’ve hit the nail on the head about avoiding mess in the activities put out. I want to let my kid make a mess, but not EVERY SINGLE DAY!

You are definitely right about the age when we are talking about toys. It's true and I have an example with my boyfriend who built things and figures of Lego made for older kids at the age of 10- 12 when he was much younger. He created things with Lego with his own fantasy like an electric "foam machine"

I've been stashing a lot of containers knowing I could use them to make activities and toys for my daughter. I love Montessori I am not a Mum but have worked in the child care industry for many years and have always loved toys that yo can make with children. Thank you so much for your tips . I have used a variety of different language cards over the years an one of the one that has gone down well with older children is picture of professions yo can use these for snap cards or lotto cards and the children love you can use anything from animals to kitchen things or whatever, as an extra game you can use them for a memory game as well.

It was super educational because its like a course it's not free but It's totally worth it you may want to look into it.
