This video makes a big mistake. It's mixing genetic and linguistic roots. One of the first things, that archeology students are told not to do. Talking about the origin of Uralic people only makes sense as long as their ancestors language can be classified as Uralic. Uralic is a language group, and it should not be strictly associated with one haplogroup (especially becouse haplogroups are not a very modern method for genetic classification). Think of it like this: What would happen if we forgot the history of Mexico and the latin speaking countries, and we went there for the first time? We would associate Native American genes with romance languages.
@anotherhistoryenthusiast58744 жыл бұрын
@@kleo2983 Haplogroups are overrated. Y chromosome is 1 of your 46 chromosomes. People use haplogroups becouse it's simple. But in reality it's an obsolite method and autosomal studies give a much broader picture. You can't really tell anything by haplogroups out of dominant paternal liniage. One small migration can change the happogroups of a native majority people, if they are less agressive. This is why people with the same haplogroups can look totally different.

It's been established by many geneticists and linguists that Haplogroup N did not originate or split up from O in Southeast Asia but likely somewhere in the area of Southern China. Also the main ethnic groups in Southern China with Haplogroup N are not Tai-Kadai speaking people but rather the Lhoba, Hani and Yi which are Sino-Tibetan / Tibeto-Burman peoples

@@ali40589 Yes you are right. I am Singaporean Chinese with ancestry from Southern China (specifically eastern Guangdong and southern Fujian) which was historically inhabited by the Hundred Yue tribes prior to widespread Sinicization of the area. The ancient Hundred Yue (or Baiyue 百越) tribes were mainly Tai-Kadai or Hmong-Mien speaking, though some researchers have suggested an Austronesian presence too mainly on the eastern coast. Chinese people only arrived in the area of Southern China during the Qin-Han dynasties around 2000 years ago. Recent evidence actually suggests that Haplogroup N originated in the north (possibly southern Siberia) rather than southern China or Southeast Asia. If you visit the yFull website, some of the earliest branches of N to have split off (mainly N-P189.2) today is mainly distributed in Russia's Altai Republic, the Balkans (Serbia, Montenegro); with ancient samples found in northern Kazakhstan's Botai culture (together with another ancient sample of R1b), the site of the world's first domestication of horses. I also belong to Haplogroup N by the way, but it is very rare among Chinese people (around 3-4% in southern China, 6-8% in northern China); my ancestors likely migrated from northern China to southern China. Many Southern Chinese today actually do still have Southeast Asian paternal lineages such as O1a-M119 or O1b1-PK4, those are the descendants of Sinicized Hundred Yue peoples.

zlatan Koenig Genetic studies done on the male remains of preconquest Magyars (ie the ruling class of medieval Hungary in the early years of its statehood) have shown that they were indeed Haplogroup N. In fact speakers of Khanty and Mansi which are the two closest living Ugric relatives of the Hungarian language in Siberia also have plenty of Haplogroup N, in the range of 60-70%. The population of Hungary however consisted largely of Ugricised Slavs who had the language and culture of the ruling Magyars imposed over them, hence most Hungarians today have the Slavic marker R1a. Interestingly, the reverse happened in Russia. Many ethnic Russians especially in the northern part of European Russia mainly consists of Russified Finno-Ugric peoples like the Finns, Estonians, Moksha, Erzya etc. hence they are culturally Russian, they speak Russian as their native language but they carry Haplogroup N. In fact, one of the most prominent figures in Russian history who is a Russified Finno-Ugric person is the Rurikid family, including Rurik himself: who laid the foundation for the formation of Rus’ and what is today Russia. Y-DNA tests carried out on Rurik and his descendants (including all members of the Rurikid Dynasty eg Ivan the Great, Ivan the Terrible, Alexander Nevsky) have all came back as Haplogroup N. Rurik was likely not of Viking (Germanic) origin but likely of Finno-Ugric / Uralic origin instead. It is recorded in history that Rurik was descended from the Varangian tribe, however the Varangians themselves consisted of some Germanicised Finno-Ugric / Uralic peoples like the Kvens of northern Scandinavia.
@YummYakitori4 жыл бұрын
@Draken 60-70% of Finnish males have Y-DNA Haplogroup N which is found in very high frequency amongst Siberian Turkic and Finno-Ugric / Uralic speakers like the Nenets, Nganasan and Yakuts/Sakha who have 90-100% Haplogroup N. This suggests that 60-70% of the Finnish population did at some point originate in Siberia as males with the Haplogroup N-M231 mutation is believed to have originated in Southern China and spread north to Siberia where it became extremely concentrated (often 90-100% amongst many Siberian ethnicities). Of course Y-DNA Haplogroup alone does not determine the way Finnish people look, as often Y-DNA Haplogroup dates back thousands of years and autosomal DNA has a greater impact on the way a person looks. I also have paternal Y-DNA Haplogroup N myself but I am of Southern Chinese ancestry and I don't look European at all (maybe except for my height. I'm 6'4). Finns could very well have near 100% European autosomal DNA, no one is denying that. But their paternal lineage which goes back way further is undoubtedly Siberian or Northeast Asian in origin.

This video gets several things quite wrong. Samoyeds are Siberians, not Mongoloids, completely different thing (see later comment). Uralic ancestors were not Asians, the haplogroup N was born somewhere in Eastern Asia: that's completely a different thing. N Haplogroup is over 20 000 years old, Uralic group developped earliest 8 000 years ago. The haplogroup had VERY WIDE SPREAD long before Uralic language group was born somewhere in Eastern Europe (maybe Volga River region). The earliest loanword layer in Uralic languages is from Proto-Indoeuropean languages, they were developping as neighbours, many paleolinguists now support that Uralic and Indoeuropean languages may have a common ancestor. And you gotta see the PHYLOGENETIC TREE of the haplogroup, it's similar to a family tree, branches forking forward, when there is a branch low on the tree, the branches high in the tree have nothing to do with those that branched millenias ago. Samoyeds are not East-Asian (preferred over "Mongoloid" term nowadays), they are Siberian. Mongolia was conquered by the Xiongnu empire between 200 BC and 100 AD when they drove the Indo-Iranian languages speaking peoples away from Mongolia. It was then when East-Asian phenotype came to Mongolia, before both Western China and Mongolia were inhabited by Europoid phenotype of people. The Samoyeds lived around Ural Mountains (a lot west from Mongolia) thousands of years before. The "Mal'ta boy" lived western side of Lake Baikal about 24 000 years ago. His DNA is the model for the ANCIENT NORTH EURASIAN (ANE) people. The ANE people made a big component of the EASTERN EUROPEAN HUNTER-GATHERERS (EHG) people's genome, about 75% is from the ANE population. Also the the Yamnaya (the Kurgan Culture, linguistically the Proto-Indoeuropean (PIE) people) people, have about 50% component descending from the ANE-people, and the related Afanasievo Culture people as well. The EHG people models are the two 8 000 - 7 000 years ago (Mesolithic - Middle Stone Age) people found in KARELIA (Karelia is the historical province of Eastern Finns, Karelians). In the Americas the ANE people make 30% - 40% of the genetic component - except with Eskimos who have the smallest percentage of ANE ancestry, and are the latest Native American migration to America, part of the late Asiatic expansion. Back when the Mongols were ravaging Eastern and Central Europe, they recruited some soldiers from the lands of the Volga Finns, who were led by the Mordvin princes, and after they ended their conquests, some of the soldiers decided to stay in Western Ukraine and Central Poland. Maybe you're a descendant of those mighty Finno-Ugric warriors?

@@yumallah Quite unlikely. IMO it is more likely that Poles have it due to intermixing with Lithuanians especially during the time of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. you are not entirely wrong, there is no point in attaching genes to nationality and looking for a specific race that represents your nation. It is very arbitrary.
