A word from Virgil's webmaster:
Today is Virgil's 60th birthday. It means that Virgil has more than 57-years of unbelievable dedication to drumming and music under his belt, and for that, he is certainly worth celebrating.
Virgil's relentless pursuit to better himself is an inspiration to everyone who has ever worked with him, or witnessed his artistic output.
I hope you will join me alongside Travis Orbin, Marco Minnemann, (with Bryan Beller and Guthrie Govan) Thomas Lang, Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta, in surprising him with this birthday greeting.

Virgil, I have always said that there will never be another Virgil donati and I truly believe that. You have been an inspiration to me since I was 8 years old. I always manage to come out and see your clinics and shows when you are in Sydney and it is always a pleasure to chat to the maester of all masters! Birthday blessings, Virgil. I remember first hearing Trencherman back in around 2011 taking a spin around the XBox Live last.fm app, and you blasted my doors off. I now use Trencherman to test people for good musical taste the way Frank Herbert's Bene Gesserit used their _gom jabbar_ to test for superior humanity. The beat is the spice, the spice is the beat. Happy Birthday, Virgil. I first saw you play at a soundcheck for Southern Sons at a club in Wagga Wagga in 1992 (I think). I thought, these guys are just some pop group playing their pop songs ... (yawn). Then Virgil jumped on the kit and started doing his thing. Blew my mind. To be fair, the whole band were great musos (even if the songs weren't entirely my thing) but even still, Virgil stood out. Keep being amazing, mate. All the best.

Happy birthday mate!! Sorry I missed you guys at the Iridium this past summer. Your sound dazzles and unlocks the gooey spots in my brain linking up the left side with the right. After I listen to your tracks I can't walk right or do stairs for awhile. Always mind blowing stuff.
