While the effects of Battle Aura have been in the show from the start, to have exposition about it and its mechanics hasn't been necessary so far. Maybe at certain points in season 3 cour 1 or even in the next few episodes they'll go over it.

At least she's also handling it and stepping up to the plate, being emotionally supportive of her step-son and looking after the woman who is her master's and husband's first wife and her friend. She is bringing all her strength to bear not to fold under all that weight.

the anime didnt do it fairly. Rudy simply got overwhelmed cuz he tunnel visioned on his foresight (demon eye) and it got the better of him.

Rudy and Roxy don't have an infinite mana pool. Rudy has a ton of mana, but not an infinite one. If they keep making small explosions, and Roxy or Rudy runs out of mana, they'd have to proceed with one less mage as Paul was going to refuse any more retreats to the inn as well. If you fill the room with Carbon Monoxide, how sure are they that the room would clear of that "Poison?" What if the Hydra doesn't even need to breathe? Those tactics you mentioned have way more repercussions than you present.

@@thespianmask8451 Why not just go back into the portal. Recover. And try again? At least attempt those options. If they're unclear of whether or not the 'poison' will be cleared. Just pump the room with water again and change it back into oxygen overtime. The only irreversible tactic I see here would be nuking the place and collapsing the dungeon and most likely killing Zenith with it.

@@thespianmask8451 Let's say they don't use up all their mana making small explosions. They could at least try to use it to know if it can stagger the hydra. Again, why assume extremities? These are also just some options off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more ways to go about this if you have enough creativity.

@@Mythriaz that's a difficult demand if you can't even suggest ideas that others can't shoot down. You could try to collapse the roof to crush it with large rocks, but you risk a cave in. Perhaps there's some magic that can be used to lob fallen rocks, or perhaps wind magic to lob Geese's bombs from long range, but we've established the Hydra has a breath attack that needed Rudy to be in close range so the rest of the team could be behind his water shield. I think the fight was done as well as it could have given the moment. In fact, it was quite a bit more tactical in the LN. The Hydra was able to regenerate a few heads via ripping off the cauterized necks which caused the team to get worn out a little more. The change in attack patterns also wasn't really quite shown in the anime as well. It's always easy to say "they could have done it better" as a coping mechanism when something we didn't want to happen happens in fiction. That's just the way things are.

@@Mythriaz ok how is Rudy going to convince the whole group that water can clear out the "poison" that's actually carbon monoxide? This world has no modern concepts of chemistry. You have all the luxury in the world to think with the coolest head imaginable in this scenario because it's not your wife, mother, or friend that's been lost for years that's at stake. "Oh they could have just-" is the words of bystander, or an audience member. It's the words of those who have no stakes. That's what the scene when they retreated was for. It was to showcase that Paul was resolved to get his wife back then and there, and to show that his team was willing to go through the grinder for him. If you can't accept that, that's cool too, but you're media consumption moving forward in any piece of media is going to suck if you can't suspend your disbelief to get lost in the moment.

he's been iffy about him from the start, but he started going paranoid at least from TP2 onwards.

Rudy was too close to use the demon eye effectively. The first time Paul pushed him out of the way was Rudy's fault. He was getting too comfortable. The second time he got distracted was because he saw Roxy almost die to a Hydra neck attack if it weren't for Talhand's clutch defense.

there is 2 things to consider, first, rudy is physically normal, as a mage, he shouldnt but was forced to go to the front to counter the hydra, the second is, he had set his eye to 2-3 seconds ahead, the hydra with the last head started flailing its stumps around, Rudy trying to see whatt it was up to got caught in the hydra trap, remember when he got stunned when looking at orsted in TP2? if he sees too many futures, his mind cant process it and he gets locked into place, it showed the thing rudy lacks, experience, specially on dungeon diving

​​@@HaxeRain yeah this dude has no experience at all with fighting huge OP shit, now he does though so at least now you could say he will become strong as hell compared to if he just stayed by Sylphie's side which means more story.

Ok so there are a few points about this that's explained better in the novel. Rudy is slow. The only time he can move fast is when he uses wind magic to push himself, which requires additional time to cast as compared to just moving out of the way when you're as fast as Paul or Elinalise. Not as much extra time for Rudy in particular because of his chantless casting, but still more time. Additionally, the Hydra began to act erratically, attacking with it's stumps which it hadn't done before that, and it also started to target Rudy and Roxy in particular. Rudy did see something coming, but couldn't understand what it was or what he should do. After the first time he gets pushed away, he barely gets time to recover before he sees Roxy die with his eye of foresight, so he starts to panic until Talhand manages to save her just barely. So in the split second right after he got back on his feet after the first push he gets distracted for a mere moment by Roxy being put in danger, while still trying to understand what the hell the Hydra is even doing, he immediately gets attacked again. If I remember correctly I don't think Rudy even fully realized what the Hydra was doing until after it was dead.
