American made vehicles are already too expensive compared to foreign competition. When business inputs increase so does the price of goods/services sold to customers. Labor costs are a major reason US autos are so expensive. There is a labor cost limit that will decrease sales to a point resulting in layoffs and plant closures. Non-union cheaper foreign labor costs do affect consumer choices at the cash register. Workers at Mercedes dodged a bullet and saved their jobs by voting against the UAW. US workers have to live with the reality that foreign workers live in societies with cheaper labor costs who sell their wares in the US. You can't expect to sell an expensive product to customers with with access to many cheaper alternatives of similar quality. An auto manufacturer could find it cheaper to build outside the US and simply ship product back to sales floors.
