Testing out my new shallow well pump before installation. Fittings were only pressed together, nothing was glued.

It seems it is at full pressure at the inlet into to inlet pipe. No internal check valve for pressure tank. I probably should have known this but didn’t. I’ve ordered a brass foot check valve with screen on it , the plastic sump check valve I used to maintain prime is not strong enough.

I'm putting in a well with 4 Sandpoint, do I need a check valve on the top of each Sandpoint or just one check valve at the pump.

That pvc intake plastic is going to leak .The instructions say not to use pve .I did and mine leaked .Used a stainless pipe and no leakage .

Would this be good as an emergency back up? So I have a well lights go out. Could I open well cap drop hose in and suck water out of my well? Kinda using it as an electric bailer bucket. Is it 110? 220?

Its 110 volts. Have this exact model. Very dependable for about 8 years so far.

I have this pump and I'm surprised by how well it works. I have it connected to garden hoses instead of PVC and it works fine. One thing that is an absolute requirement is the you have to install a check valve on the inlet line. Otherwise, it will lose pressure.

This pump is good out of the box, but does anyone have one that the motor hasn't burnt out within a few months. I'm on my second one, thought I just got a bad one, but done with harbor freight junk

I’ve had mine for like two years never had any major issues. I turned mine into a portable irrigation pump mounted to a dolly with a flexible suction hose that I drop in my pond when I need irrigation. The only issues I’ve had with it is within a few months after I got it it seemed to not want to turn and would just hum so I took the front stainless bell housing off and rubbed some silicone plumbing grease rubber safe spray silicone on the seal between the motor shaft and the impeller and I’ve never had any issues since. Second minor issue was the pressure gauge stopped working after about a year but it’s not necessary for operation.

With that pump, you do not have to prime the pipe going down into the well. simply prime the pump one time and that bad boy will suck the water right up that pipe in about a minute. depends on the depth. but, 14 ft for me from the water mark and it was pumping water in less than a minute. I would use no bigger than 1 inch pipe too. it worked with 1 1/4 inch but it was noticeably a heavier lift.

More detailed answer: One of the really hard to grasp principles of hydraulics is the relation of volume of flow, pressure, and the weight of water. Odd as it seems a larger pipe will actually be easier for the pump. It’s not the volume of water, but the height it is lifted that matters. In a way this is a variation on the old saying “which weighs more, a pound of feathers, or a pound of lead?” Obviously both weigh a pound! This version could be phrased “which is easier for the pump, 5 GPM in a 1/2″ pipe or 5 GPM in a 2” pipe? Neither because 5 GPM is still 5 GPM regardless of the pipe size! Yes, you would need more power if you were actually lifting more water, also we would need more power to lift the water higher, but neither is not what is happening. The amount of water nor the height we are lifting hasn’t changed. The other issue here is flow through a pipe. This is the issue that actually makes the smaller pipe potentially worse than the larger. Because the smaller pipe is smaller it is harder to force the water through it. The resistance of the walls of the smaller pipe causes pressure loss as water flows through. this is commonly called “friction loss”. How much friction loss occurs depends on the flow rate and pipe size. Both higher flows and smaller pipes sizes result in greater friction loss. This is the only reason a smaller pipe would be worse than the bigger pipe. How much worse is dependent upon the actual flow rate and pipe size. As a general rule (ie: not always true, but is most of the time) the pipe size of the pump outlet is almost always smaller than the size of pipe that will provide optimal flow from the pump. In other words, if a pump has a 1″ threaded outlet, it is very likely that a 1 1/2″ pipe would be attached to the 1″ outlet for use as the outlet pipe. Pump manufacturer’s tend to use smaller size inlets and outlets to save money. Sounds as if that is an incorrect statement on your part
