now that's cool that's perfect good or not I found a six-inch well Ben grills in the backyard when I was digging behind the old house here it's amazing is 30 feet deep and there's water that is 12 feet down from the top I believe I'll be getting one of those pumps thanks cuz

No worries brother! I used it this weekend to fill the tanks in the camper!! water was cold and sweet :D I did have some issues with the sump pump check valve :( I got pipe glue in it and it wouldn't keep the pump primed.. So, I went out and picked up a brass swing check valve and attached that to the end and it worked like a charm.

Good on ya Jarhead. We finishing up our shipping container cabin and use this exact pump for our showers as well. No well on our property yet, but our local water hauler is very cheap. Septic tank got stuck in the ground this spring and we'll be plumbing everything up later this fall. Semper Fi brother.

I went to your channel to see all this greatness!!! I was sad :( do you have a blog or anything?? I wish I was as far as you were though! I had another subscriber ask me about using this pump for tank water, how does it work for you? I didn't think it would be a great idea, but now that I have someone to ask?? Appreciate the comment. Rah.

My channel is pretty lame. Ill try to get some video this weekend while we're here. But I did a lengthy write up with some pictures at the TSP forum. thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=52480.0 The pump works great for tank water. A lot of folks including my inlaws use them and have very little problems. Just have to be sure to keep the prime and be careful about freezing. Oh, and buy a foot valve as it doesn't come with one!
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 8 жыл бұрын
That is beautiful.. Thanks for letting me see the pics!! and introducing me to a really cool forum :D I messed up with my foot valve :( I had to replace it with a new one.. I put the pvc pipe glue in to hold the joints, and it leaked down into the flap. So it wasn't able to hold water and wouldn't stay primed. I changed it out with a brass check valve and that seems to work out ok.

Great property and I like your use of your own water; and, I would suggest an inexpensive water test in case you are ever challenged by your local community on the water quality. As the others suggest, well house is great way to keep pump out of the weather and protect the well from contaminants.

Brother they put that non pot thing on the pump as a CYA. We have that same pump on a back up well and the water is the same coming from that well as the main one. Hell the town was trying to stop us from using are wells so we would buy town water. When that happen they tested with out asking me mind you my 2 wells and even there test says it was fune to drink. That one kind of back fired on them.. Just filter the water and your fine. Nice work. God Bless.

+Jordan do make a list of requirements! things you need.. I'm building a home from my own trees. So a requirement for me was no property that was freshly timbered.. I want animals and plants.. so readily available water, from multiple sources was imperative. and I would need cleared land to do that.. clearing land sucks. I wanted to build my own house, so It didn't matter if there was a home on the property. you may want one on yours. Do not settle for something that doesn't meet your requirements or expectations! hope this gives you something to think about.

@@dawinner777 so, I believe it would have, it was a sump pump check valve, but I got some pipe glue on the seal and it wouldn't hold a prime over night. I'm thinking about buying one of these pumps as a temporary water supply to the house, to maybe take a shower or flush the toilet when something goes wrong with my deep well pump. So, if I have 55 gal barrel of water, and this pump is hooked up to the house plumbing pumping from the barrel , is there a safety switch that shuts it off when the barrel is almost empty? I see it has an expansion tank, so it must shut off, when you turn off the faucets inside the house. Thanks
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 8 жыл бұрын
No, there is not a safety stop as far as I know if the water runs dry. You could probably get away with something else a lot cheaper for what your looking to do.. This pump will run a 55 gallon drum empty in just a few short minutes. You are correct, when the pressure tank fills to 35 PSI or so it shuts the pump off.
@georgiebearpaws
@georgiebearpaws 8 жыл бұрын
Appreciate your time with the last reply, but just one more thing, I was wondering, if you might know. The pump is a swallow water well pump, so why wouldn't the water being pumped thru it, not be drinkable? Do you think maybe, in the materials, they use to build this pump, maybe contaminate the water? In my case, our deep well pump failed at the worst possible time, when my wife was ready to take her bath, she didn't take it too well. My goal, is to have maybe 2-3 barrels of water connected, to supply an emergency water supply, until I can figure out why my pump failed. Because it's stated, that it's "non-potable with this pump", I've reasoned, that this water from the barrels will will only flow to the tub and toilet. There shouldn't be any water in the 15 ft of pipe that leads to the kitchen sink used for drinking/cooking water. But I would ran water thru my faucets later to clean the pipes out after the deep well was fixed. Thanks
@georgiebearpaws
@georgiebearpaws 8 жыл бұрын
Hmm,.. I just thinking now, If I fed the water into the hot water tank for bath water, that hot water, I didn't use would eventually be flowing out of the kitchen faucet latter on. I would have to make sure the hot water tank was completely cycled and rinsed out also, after I fixed my deep well pump.
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 8 жыл бұрын
George P I'm really not sure why it says that.. I'm assuming that the materials used make it that way.. But as I said, the from my well isn't for drinking.. Its for flushing toilets and showers. I think there is a better alternative for your application. Send me an e-mail at Kentuckyhomestead@gmail.com and I'll send you my idea.

Informative and useful, thanks. Can you use something like a Berkey filter yo make the water drinkable?
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 8 жыл бұрын
I mentioned that to my dad, It wouldn't bother me any. The well needs to be covered to not allow rainwater and any more organic material down in it. That well was the primary source of water for the man who farmed it in the early 1900's so the well can / will produce good water. But yes, a Berkey will remove lead and most all other contaminants (99.9%).

Hi, thanks Can you please tell me whats that small think under the pump purpose, if you turn the valve off does the pump automaticly shut off?
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 7 жыл бұрын
Frank Segai I'm not sure what you mean by the small thing under the pump. but yes, if you turn the valve off, the pump automatically shuts off when it builds up 35 psi of pressure.

Still pumping water :) it's used every couple of weeks to fill up the camper for showers and such and it's stored in the barn over winter.

Does this pump have to be primed? How do you prime if so?
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 6 жыл бұрын
yes, this pump needs to be primed. there is a primer port on the pump itself. You just unscrew it and fill it up with water.

Kentucky Homestead I just bought the new harbor freight version that is now called Drummond it says for potable water not sure what the difference is between the old one and this one. But I didn’t like the design of the priming port so what I did was I added a PVC T fitting to the output and put Threaded cap on the top of it for priming and the side port of the T is where the output is now. I have not installed the pump yet but will be installing it in about a month and I will let you know how everything works. I’m only going to be pumping pond water for running a sprinkler.

Does the pump only run when calling For water ?
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm
@KentuckyHomesteadFarm 3 жыл бұрын
It will pump until the bladder in the tank is to the pressure you've set. It will pump again when the pressure gets below the threshold, and run until bladder is full.
