Thank you. I found out today the cancer has spread to my liver because the original oncologist used the wrong treatment and didn’t give me all the needed meds for it. So… they are working on saving my life or at least prolonging it a bit longer so i can get my affairs in order. I have a new oncologist. I love watching you guys so i will continue to do so as long as i am alive. Thank you for helping keep my mind off my troubles, i love you all❤️‍🔥

Jon, I'd love to see a video one day of your entire collection, and any groups of associated bones you have found from the same animal. I'm sure you must have at least a couple of partial skeletons by now.

I would love to find some mastodon teeth when we are on the river some time. Haven't gotten onto any fossils that large yet, but it is fun finding the small pieces too. Getting to be that time of year more water will be pushing through the river and hopefully expose some new fossils. Just need to watch a little closer for gators. Love your content and all the knowledge you share. Keep up the good work.

Last year, when I was on vacation in Florida with my parents, we decided to go fossil hunting in Peace River with a tour guide named Mike who knows a lot about fossils just like you. I was hoping to find a mammoth 🦣 or mastodon tooth but I found part of a baby megalodon shark tooth and something even better than a mammoth 🦣 or mastodon tooth, a dire wolf 🐺 tooth. At first Mike thought it was an alligator tooth but I told him that it was too long to bean alligator tooth, then I realized that it was probably a dire wolf 🐺 tooth. Then, a couple of months later, I took the dire wolf 🐺 tooth to the American Museum Of Natural History to compare the dire wolf 🐺 tooth with the canine teeth of a dire wolf 🐺 found at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles in California, and it matched. It was an amazing experience finding the dire wolf 🐺 tooth and then comparing it to the dire wolf 🐺 teeth at the museum.

Great stuff but the correct term for "humps" is lophs...a 5 loph tooth is not a mastodon, it is an amebelodont...one of the shovel turkeys that evolved post gompothier...that tooth 5 to 20 million years old

How come you mainly find teeth and no dinosaur skulls. It’s still nice seeing those big teeth 👍👍👍
@DiggingScience
@DiggingScience 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! The reason why is because of something called preservation bias. Teeth are the hardest part of the body and most likely to survive the process of fossilizing. Something like a skull though is much more likely to break and degrade before having a chance to mineralize.
@taffythegreat1986
@taffythegreat1986 2 жыл бұрын
@@DiggingScience I see the point you’re making. I wonder why you have fossilise birds, all intact with skulls. And they’re more fragile in comparison. Keep up the happy hunting 👍👍
@DiggingScience
@DiggingScience 2 жыл бұрын
@@taffythegreat1986 you wont ever have that happen in Florida. The depositional environment here is too high energy. Most complete fossil bird skeletons come from only two locations in the world. The Green River Formation in Wyoming and Solnhofen in Germany. These localities are referred to as lagerstätten, which are sedimentary deposits that exhibits extraordinary fossils with exceptional preservation. The Green River Formation for example was a low bacteria, low energy lake with an anoxic zone where if an animal died, it could get preserved in perfect detail.
