HARDEST Hunt in Arizona - Kaibab Invasive Elk

We're hiking, glassing, watching some mule deer bucks fighting, and run into a mountain lion Hunter.
140 Square miles per elk, some incredibly rugged terrain that is often almost completely impossible to glass.

Those glassing scenes of the mule deer took me back 30 years to self guided mule deer hunting (public land) on the Missouri breaks in MT. I got a 18 point non-typical buck (208 net BC) in 1994.

I've shed hunted N Kaibab for 28 years and have never seen an elk there but I have found 3 elk sheds (including a 350" set found opening day of my 2003 Late deer hunt! Good luck!

Oh you're kidding?! I'm really hoping to spend some days shed hunting out here in a few weeks, see if I can't find that monster mules sheds from my latest video. Any tips on where you found those elk sheds?

Been hunting the Kaibab since 1972 and have seen just one group of elk. I saw 4 bulls together while hunting turkeys on the west side of the unit. When AZGFD was allowing Kaibab deer hunters to buy an elk tag, I told my clients not to bother. Better chance of getting hit by a meteor than seeing an elk! Lol

Nice to be out and about but I personally would not want to be trying to chase elk out there. Nice video…..

Thanks man. I agree with you, but when you live on this side of the canyon, hunting opportunities are pretty hard to get drawn for, so this is one we can get outside, get some time on, and if we don't succeed, it's still pretty fun to see the monster Muley's that live in the country.

They shed quite a bit: branches and barbed wire fences often scrape some off.
