Hey you Guys. Great videos man. watched your videos on the Presonus quantum. thanks for a honest review 😀. although, wanted to know if the converters are the same on all quantum interface? does the Presonus quantum 2 have the same converters as the 48/48 ? Thanks

Great video! I modded my 15IPS modules for more headroom and they live on my master bus at 3 clicks. But I think they come out of the box with too much saturation and really need the mod to give more headroom before they really saturate too much for master bus use. I use my Ultraviolet EQ to add the top end sheen back that's missing from these. Really interesting about your colour palette units. Mine are unity gain at 12o'clock. You might want to contact their support about that because it sounds like you might have something wrong with the units. FYI the CTX console colour module is amazing for that API op-amp and transformer sound for the mix bus.

Thank you!, in the last comparison I hear the HW louder than Studer Plugin. I agree Studer plugin is pretty flat/2D but also seems smoother in the top end (as a real Studer does), the HW is crispier.

I'm surprised you didn't test the Softube tape emulation considering you recently were reviewing their products. The Softube tape has special integration with Studio One that no other tape emulation contains.

I dont have their tape machine on my SSL rig. I used the 3 I have and to me that is a fair enough test

I am wondering how that 50hz boost affects the overtones. The Studer is flatter, but there are so many more ways to alter it, you could probably get the Studer to match the module.

Yep, just as we said in the video a few times. You can tweak these plugins to make them sound the way you like. They have way more flexibility than the DIYRE module we tested

On the Origin, I saw how you send FX like reverb to the small faders. Can you use the Origin’s FX returns for that use as well?

I have the WAVES Eddie Kramer, and Softube Tape. I´ve used the Eddie Kramer a lot, and like it. Just got the Softube, it´s supposed to be good. I don´t know these other plugins.

Can you take 2 mono / one channel 500 series units and use them on a stereo source? This is something I am really not familiar with and I am interested in getting into 500 series gear.

No, if the 500 series hardware is a mono unit, you need two of them in order to use it on a stereo track

Wow the hardware vs the Slate is such a huge difference, it's like another video I recently saw where the Slate was "sucking the life" out of the mix. I am starting to think Slate plugins are silly overrated. But YMMV. Now will go onto UAD examples :)

I flipped back and forth between plug ins and the hardware. The hardware for sure sounds more musical and warmer if you flip back and forth without the listening gap you can hear it. The plug ins definitely have more digital harshness and slightly less clarity when you A-B them. Good to see as I just ordered a stereo pair of DIYRE as its on sale right now. Two with 6 modules for $560 black friday sale

@@MixingMusicAnalog it's a long story why I use Mixbus 32c now. Short story, Logic Pro is giving me disk slow error after I updated to Catalina in 2020. Check it out and see what you think of Harrison 32c . I like it as my 2014 imac(I will milk it as much as I can. ).

I really like how you've shown the difference between a plugin and a cheaper bit of analog. If you think how much the 542 is, it'll have to be better. These units also are cheap enough also you could fill the buses on a console or even the buses on a summing unit, if they have them without breaking the bank. Much closer top the real thing and still not time consuming like the real thing.

But good to see that plugins aren't useless in comparison... That living sound analog gives is the only thing analog will always have over digital unit. Until the digital format gets completely changed eventually, when those advancements are made. confidence in the HRK unit now

I can tell you that now that I have a pair of Neve 542's, they are way better to my ears than the DIYRE modules. Again, this is just my opinion. To my personally (uncle dave), the DIYRE modules are not flexible enough and get to saturated to quickly. However, DSJ feels differently and neither one of us is "wrong" its all about your personal workflow and taste.

Honestly the Slate plugin made everything fatter and wider in no time while keeping the air that the real tape killed instantly. With maintenance costs and tape fees, a tape machine is not an investment I'd make any time soon...

This most commont UAD tape emulator, which is after studer is darker in upper mids than module. You can hear it with this tambourine hits To add to comments below: RND 542 seams to color the whole package without adding mids or high mids. It sounds just like good fat tape. Just like Steve Albini said: Tape is just a recording tool. In a perfect world You won't hear much diference - just a color or some sort of 2nd/3rd harmonics. (blue/red silk?)
