Today a subscriber stops by to give the Pro 28C a test run. Clyde is in the market for a new splitter and wanted to see what he thought about the Wolfe Ridge. I use the Balfour Samurai 700 to get a load of ash rounds ready for the visit. The Samurai paired up with a high quality log splitter makes firewood fast and fun!

Thanks, one of the reasons I started this channel was to be able to help others out. Clyde was doing research on a new splitter and contacted me. Things worked out and he was able to come check the Wolfe Ridge out.

It was definitely nice of him. I started this channel for a few reasons. One reason was because my kids wanted to start one. Another reason was to help people out when I can. Definitely nice of Doug to bring the splitter over, and to let Clyde come try it out as well.

Heath most viewers have no idea how long it takes to make, edit and post a video. Looks like your helper enjoyed using the Wolf Ridge splitter.

Tony no doubt! It definitely takes a lot of time. I often want to get out and work but know I have to do some editing. I am still guilty of doing quite a bit of work off camera due to time constraints. Yeah Clyde definitely appreciated getting his hands on another splitter to test before making his decision.

@@hardworkingmanoutdoors This is met for Tony. Well, Tony, there are some of us that do know the time it takes to do editing. We also know what KZfaq pays you to do it as well so you can stop your crying about how long it takes to edit videos You sound more and more like your buddy Chris every day, good luck with that

700 means 700 millimeters blade diameter. That is 70 centimeters. If you figure 10 cm for the hub, cutting distance would be 30 cm for a 30 cm diameter log. That is about 12 inches. A processor could do both jobs at one time with only one person. That would be 1/3 of the labor, as I see it. If you have a processor, then you are sort of committed to a large production to pay for the processor. The price range for most processors would be between $20,000 and $200,000 (new). That Samurai looks like an upgrade from the traditional chainsaw. Circular saws are great until you hit a rock or piece of iron. Very low maintenance and no oil needed. An electric chop saw would work on extra small wood.

Jake, agreed. I would love a processor but as you stated the cost is quite hi especially for a decent one. For now I’ll run the Samurai, chainsaws, and the Allwood.

can you use saw on the tractor and have the spitter beside it so as you can cut and split in the one motion

Hi Richard. I got my samurai from Eastern Farm Machinery. Here’s their website: www.easternfarmmachinery.com They do ship to the US if that’s where you’re located.

Hello. it's me again the high tech guy from Boston. Am I wrong about this Samurai thing? If it takes a 30K tractor to run 5K cutter it just doesn't make any sense to me why you would you do that. You could buy a Japa 365 for that kind of money, which feeds, cuts, and splits faster than that Samurai, am I wrong thinking that way? just asking.

Charlie, the saw was around $2,800 and I picked up a $1,500 Massey Ferguson tractor to run it. As far as the Kioti tractor goes I have that and use it for all kinds of other jobs so I’d need that any ways. I’d love a Japa but once I get my set up the way I want it I should be able to makes logs into splits pretty fast at a much lower cost. Also the tractors can do a lot of things where the Japa can only make wood.

@@hardworkingmanoutdoors The thing I don't understand is why would you tie up a tractor of any type to run a small cutter There are so many other things you could be doing with the tractor. I know I must sound like a Japa sales guy but believe I'm not I just see your channel growing very fast and even the Japa 318 could double your volume in the woodyard time is money that's why I see a mini processer doing multiple tasks at once would fit your application every will but now that have a new splitter coming the Japa is way down the road However what does a high tech guy from Boston about a woodyard. lol

Charlie, I’d love to and someday will move into a processor. My current set up is a stepping stone. I wanted to go straight into a Japa but the boss said not yet.

i split wood just for my furnace and occasional campfire but when i watch vids no matter who with multiple cutting wedges i see a whole lot of waste look in any splitters area there will be a huge pile of waste, there is no need more common sense and better splitting technique would go along way, you dont have to split like the worlds ending slow down take better care of wood and equipment and less trash
@hardworkingmanoutdoors
@hardworkingmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I will agree there is definitely a lot more scraps when using multiple split wedges. I wouldn’t call it waste though as I use most of it for a fire while splitting in the winter. I am crazy busy with work, family, side jobs, etc. so in my case the time saved with a fast multiple splitter is worth the extra scrap production. I know box wedges make even more scrap. No perfect system. Thanks for the comment and have a great day.
