I am excited for the increased production I believe this new saw will bring to my process. Should also save my back! From Re-cutting some long cut ash, making smoker chunks, to bucking up logs the Balfour Samurai might be the answer.
I purchased the saw at:

Yeah I know they used to be more popular but I also know there were a lot of injuries with older style saws. I think this style is pretty safe and will come in handy. Time will tell. Thanks for commenting and have a good day.

When I bring home a load of firewood and have a bunch of pieces too long I trim them with my 12” mitre saw. 😆 It’s easier than trying to hold a small piece of wood when you need two hands on the saw. (I don’t make a lot of firewood) I can see you getting a lot of use out of that new tool…good purchase! Cheers 🇨🇦

First thing I would do is get some customers that have fireplaces that prefer the 18 to 24 inch pieces. My potbelly stove takes short pieces so I cut mine down with a $150 chop saw. Looks like a big waste of money to me, IMO.

I think you may change your mind when I make firewood rounds with it which is the main reason I bought it. Time will tell if it was money well spent or a waste. I don’t often buy long cut wood just had some on hand and a new saw so it made sense to try it out. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.

My buzz saw on rock ( Newfoundland) I cut up round logs . A lot faster them my 95 cc to 105 cc chainsaw for sure . Turn up PTO there cut fast . My word for the day is THINK SAFETY and put SAFETY FIRST around wood yard or in wood .

Thanks for the input. It is definitely faster than my chainsaws. Definitely looking forward to seeing what it can do. So far it seems pretty safe to operate. The blade is set behind the guard further than it looks in the video.

@@hardworkingmanoutdoors NO PROBLEM, I just see a lot off worker and myself get hurt in the big logging world . Went you work from sun up to sun down , get pay for timber on the ground . Just a word think safety and safety first ( big chainsaw jump fast them the eyes . )

OMG I’ve been looking at the Balfour saw for several years but haven’t pulled the trigger on it. I was looking at the gas version. The only other people using it are the girls at Lumber Capitol Log Yard. They primarily use it for all the slab wood they produce from their sawmills. Talk about perfect 16” wood! A couple questions 1. Where did you buy it, local or shipped to you 2. What was the cost 3. I assume it’s carbide tipped, does the company do resharpening 4. What happens if you hit metal, can you repair the teeth Heath thanks for sharing!!!!!

Tony, I thought you would like it. I too wanted a stand alone gas model but they do not make the Samurai with a gas engine (however I do not think it would be hard to convert). I bought it from Eastern Farm Machinery near Guelph Ontario about 2 hours from me. It is a carbide tipped blade. He said it can be re sharpened, not sure if they do it or not. He said he only sells about 1 blade for every 30 machines or so, they are quite durable. Not sure on the repair of you hot metal. I will obviously be doing more in depth videos with it. I too have been looking at them for a while but was nervous because like you said there is very little out there about them. I saw the lumber capital video also looking for content on them. This saw cost me just over $2,800usd out the door and he does ship. It is the same person who is selling them on eBay but you get a much better price buying in person or direct over the phone.

Will do Tony. I found the same thing, they seem to be popular over seas but not here in the US. I’ll definitely be featuring it in upcoming videos and putting it through its paces with different types of wood and tasks. You scared me the other day with the hidden 3pt implement lol I thought, no it can’t be lol. I was relieved when it was a tiller. I planned on doing a video shortly making smoker chips with my Wallenstein chipper and Ohio Wood Burner just released a similar video.

Buy low and resell high, but it needs to be high quality. No way would I be cutting 4” off a 20” piece, I would find customer who want long cut stuff. I’m kinda skeptical on how that thing will work for logs, pretty sure chainsaw would be much better. Prove me wrong on a video cutting 12’ long 10” diameter logs into 16” rounds faster than can be done with chainsaw.

Guess you’ll have to wait and see. I’m hopeful but haven’t been able to put it through its paces yet with my tweaked back. I definitely plan on seeing what this saw can do. I will not be cutting down much split wood like that but had some long cut, had a new saw, and a chance to make a sore back friendly video. Cutting logs will be my main use 🤞🏻that it works like I hope.

My standard cut prices are 12” long to 18” long with the vast majority being 14.5”-16.5” long. I tell customers who say 18” is to long to buy sawzall and cut them themselves. OR we’ll custom cut them short at an additional cost.
