Apparently the wink was innocent - Monye: I've never asked you this, Tommy, but why the wink? You look back and you just thought: 'Tommy, come on mate.' Williams: The wink was ironically quite innocent. It was someone asking me if I was OK and it was me saying: 'Yeah I'm fine.' That was it. Care: That's why it looks so bad because the wink looks like it was all part of the plot, but it wasn't at all.

To be fair, the young guy who faked the injury, probably didn't have much say in the matter, if he wanted to stay in the squad

You know nothing of rugby. This kinda shit was happening on a weekly basis at the time. Banning for life would have been completely unjust.

Even now, ten years later, I find this cheating to still be quite stomach churning. Just consider for a moment - all that year long hard work by what ultimately turned out to be the best team in Europe that season, Leinster, was almost rendered meaningless by some down in the gutter conduct! Thankfully Tom Williams conscience got the better of him and he came clean, even though it was alleged that some senior members of his club tried to buy him off with promises to pay off his mortgage!

Dean Richards, former policeman, lying through his teeth there. Classy. It is absolutely right that all those who were found guilty of misconduct in bloodgate should be remembered purely for that. No redemption. No healing over time. Forget the international caps, trophies, match winning performances etc. They are all just grubby little cheats who brought the game into disrepute. Their characters are forever stained.

He couldn't come back on because he'd already been substituted off, referenced earlier in the video. The only circumstance he can come back on is due to a blood injury. Harlequins had given Tom Williams a blood capsule to fake the bleeding.

not “disgraceful” as many comments are saying. At the time, simulated blood subs were happening regularly. This was just the case that blew the whole thing open. Those involved here were unfairly treated and scapegoated for the entire sport.
