Exciting project. I'm looking forward to part two. Quick question from a non-mechanic: Does that crank fit without any machine work to the engine block? I assume a TC A and TC B are pretty much the same except the balancing stuff as you have in your TC B.

Incredibly useful! Thanks boys! I'm getting ready to refresh my 2003 FXSTDi Deuce on it's 20th birthday with a big-bore/stroker kit, and I need to upgrade the bottom end. Little things like the lifter magnets and balancer chain tensioner stays I hadn't thought about. Does putting in larger/heavier pistons on a longer stroke mess with the counterbalancing's ability to compensate for the increased vibes?

Very nice build. I have a gear driven 05 RK custom with a 95 kit. I noticed the baker 5 in the build, why is that preferred over the 6 speed conversion? A transmission upgrade is next on my list so I'm curious about the reasoning of the 5 over the 6 speed.

When a tc88 has a con rod bearing failure, what test is ran to determine whether the pin can be pressed out, and new rods, bearings snd a pin be installed and the assembly get trued up. Or if the flywheel assembly is not rebuildable and must get a new one?? Thank you!

Are you using an aftermarket crank that you used on the first build? I find it hard to believe that the pinion shaft run out on that crankshaft if it is stock is not out of limits for gear drive cams.
@DirtBikesDragRadials2 жыл бұрын
It’s a brand new S&S Stroker crank. Check out the part 2 video! But the oem crank we took out is running again in a different motor, still running gear drive 👍

Very hard to put a total price on this one, since it seemingly has no end. But I can safely tell you we're into 5 digits by now. You'll see this bike again soon for new wheels, huge brakes and more!

Very professional video but I have just one question. How did the original HD crank hold up? Every early twin cam I pulled apart always had a near-perfect crank in 01 and 02. It's sad HD cost cut and made the TwinCam bottom end much less reliable. Subscribed and looking forward to future content.
@DirtBikesDragRadials2 жыл бұрын
Original crank is currently in another running engine. New chain sliders in the bottom and fresh bearings. They don’t make em like they used to!

@@redneckswitwheels The crank out of my 2013 Ultra Limited, other than the .006 runout was still good after 150,000 miles. Now I have a dark horse crank and gear drive cams.
@redneckswitwheels Жыл бұрын
@@kerrylewis2581 sorry u don't appreciate my comment. Did u get a good crank? Sure . But after 08 to much changed and not for the better. And yes I was a certified hd tech which don't mean shit. But I been wrenching on bikes for 40plus yrs. My 04 Twinkie runs the old htcc ported heads and pistons... It's a 95 but it's built to go 110mph for that highway life. Every 11,000 miles she need a refresher on the topend but stock crank and never welded. Still running true.. oh best part? It can be rebuilt. Harley went so far down hill after 08 most old guys that know only bys the ones worth rebuilding
@kerrylewis2581 Жыл бұрын
@@redneckswitwheels I did not mean it that way. The cranks and cases went downhill after 2006. I'm saying I got lucky. Now I have a Timken bearing and dark horse crank. I have two friends who had to have their engines rebuilt because their cranks run out. and connecting rod failure. One was .018, and the other was .021 Neither beat their bikes and both were under five years old. I agree with you.
@clintdenman3037 Жыл бұрын
The gears are possibly the best idea for the twin cam because they eat chain guides but the rest of the engine is not really that bad in my humble opinion no bits no real reason to rebuild but hey if you have money half his luck but I build my Shovel every 3 years either way.

A yea ago I completed my 95" 100/100 build on my 2002 Night Train and after spending around 6g's just on parts as the labor was free, done by myself, I'm ready to do a 117/124 build on my "B" motor. Kinda surprised they are doing a 106, nothing wrong with the build and it'll produce decent number's and not everyone is looking for a hot rod. It just seems to me that if you're already doing a stroker and boring the cases, why not a 117? Plenty street able manners with the right tune and most likely you won't need more but to each' own. I still have my stock cylinder's and heads, so if I can safely use these as they are still stock, I replaced them on my build with S&S 79cc heads and Zipper's blueprinted 95 jugs and pistons, just in case i wanted to go bigger. I run the fueling oe+ plate, pump and lifter's so if I can reuse them as well it would save me some coin, along with my DTT tuner. Obviously S&S is superior and if it's necessary to reliability then I'll go with those jugs. As you all know, Jim's is really the only person I know that makes a crate engine for the "B" motor but for the price, proprietary parts and no warranty, I'm good. Great video guys, hoping to get this done over our snowy Boston winter. Still doing my research.

No case modifications required to run this package. S&S STROKER crank and barrels designed to work with it. Makes great torque and has excellent street manners. Thanks!

I have often wondered why there are so many of these engines out there. This Harley Davidson engine is nothing more than 1940’s/1950’s technology that survived because of the HD brand. The fact is they are hot motors that are overly labor intensive where the heat breaks them down over time. Other manufacturers have overhead cams, no pushrods, no rocker arms, and are fully counter balanced with most being liquid cooled. They run good new but over time you're screwed.
