To be clear, Jeff is just a razor thin edge away from a metric 1/3 of why I listen to these. I adore Jeff. No shade. Just funny contrast

you could teleport like a mile up in the air over any area, then as youre falling, look at an area and teleport to that spot. Unless momentum plays into it.

29:05 is really what we got in that Justin Roiland written animated The Boys spinoff episode. I forget what animal it was but it was literally just that premise.

Immortality would be the best mundane super power. Basically useless utility wise, couldn’t rob a bank, but you’ll outlast humanity, the earth the sun the galaxy the black holes and see the next universe start up again for the repeat viewing.

Dan was right about the Goonies. I rewatched it recently and my memories of it were so much better than the actual film.

the clip ended, I began to scroll down as I said aloud "ohh he's unfortunately right about the Goonies" then, I see your comment first. and so isn't that fun everyone?

You could use this kind of teleportation to travel forwards in time if you can teleport near to a black hole and back. I'm assuming the teleportation power allows to teleport back to Earth and not just where you left it.
27:27 this is kinda like Karl pilkington’s bullshit man

just to be a dull twat... re spacesuits in the Apollo era they were all custom. now they are more standardized because so many different astronauts rotate through the ISS they don't send up a spacesuit for each. this was a reason why recently an all female spacewalk has to be cancelled. there was an issue with one of the women's suits so one of the men did it instead cos the bigger suit was serviceable.

Jeff's rule on picking superpowers that can't be used for crime is so completely dumb. Anything can be a crime depending on the country or culture, including his two personal examples. Flight? - The airspace is regulated, Jeff. Flying above a certain altitude is illegal, flying without a licence is illegal, flying over certain territories or countries is illegal, etc. Talking in any language? - Well come on, you could just go to other countries and sexually harass people but in their own language. Or you could call some terrorists and commit treason by giving them information in their language. Someone really should have told Jeff to drop his stupid rule much sooner than Dan did. It's really stupid, and it was derailing the entire discussion because he's just arbitrarily dismissing everyone's cool imaginary powers.

i see your point, but i don't think of it that way. in the end, jeff's stupid rule limiting the superpowers got people to suggest more mundane, more useless, and funnier powers. i think this is a great segment, and it wouldn't be better if people were just like "i want the power to crash asteroids into the earth". i'd much rather have the bit about the ten second duck transformation

I with ZachCG on this one, it makes the discourse far more entertaining to establish boundaries When I was in nuke school we played a similar sort of game, whenever we weren't playing What If (the game where you draw a stick figure on paper and one person tries to kill it and one person tries to save it). When you have intelligent overthinkers (as opposed to emotional/neurotic overthinkers) it gets out of hand rather quickly. My superpower was always thermokinesis, so if I was ever in danger of "losing" the game I would just accelerate the universe to heat death. The only people to ever "beat me" were the ones who chose time travel. The moral of the story is, rules allow the universe to exist longer, which generally allows for more fun (and that heroes like Quasar are dreadfully underrated)

And at the risk of sounding pragmatic, when has derailment been detrimental to this cast? Not counting Erin...
@Mriya62 жыл бұрын
@@ralphwatkins2505 Yes but you're missing my point that the rule of "it can't be used for crime" is itself ill-defined because even different cities and counties have different laws, let alone states let alone countries. So you're forever working within a framework that is constantly changing and which can't apply to everyone at the same time.
