After Goblet of Fire kicked things up a notch in the Harry Potter Universe with the death of Robert Pattinson’s Cedric Diggory, things got REAL at Hogwarts in Harry’s fifth year. With the Ministry of Magic in full denial mode about Voldemort’s return, Harry and the gang had to train themselves and deal with the crazy authoritarian Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix definitely raises a few questions though. Like how was it okay for them to have Harry do public manage on the way to his hearing for doing public magic? Why didn’t Umbridge break down the wall earlier if they knew where Dumbledore’s Army was practicing? Was that kiss with Cho Chang romantic or creepy? Does the power of friendship really solve everything?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

And, in many ways, that's worse. I've been in the situation where a loved one was losing their memory but stayed alive. You can't properly grieve because they're still there, but everything that really makes them "them" is gone. Neville had to live life seeing his parents while they were unable to recognize him at all. Instead of dead parents you could grieve over, he got parents that were right there and yet not there at all. For all the flak Neville gets in the series, I'd say that he had it worse than Harry parents-wise.

@@redhunter8731 That's even dumber if they were there to "test" them lmao, there is literally no reason to do that. Retroactively trying to explain away these plotholes doesn't fix that. Besides, considering he's supposedly a "dark lord" (whatever that means) he probably could have found a way to beat the mirror eventually. The only way your scenario makes sense is that Dumbledore specifically wanted at least Harry if not all three of them to not only get past potentially DEADLY traps (regardless of how easy they turned out to be), and then confront a fully grown wizard being possessed by a dark lord, why exactly? To see how they'd handle it? Didn't Dumbledore get called away to some party or some shit anyway? I believe people hate Umbridge more because she's more realistic. Voldemort is a murderous racist psycho -- you don't really meet people like that in your day to day. He's scary but you can't relate to interacting with him. Umbridge is an entitled asshole on a power trip -- you run into people like that all the time and they make everyone's lives miserable.
@panda4247

@@Phyrre56 let's not forget she was a racist psycho as well... (she hated centaurs and other sentient non-humans as much as Voldy hated muggles, even before she worked for his administration in the 6th book; it was not just a pose to stay in power in the 6th, it was her genuine belief). But yeah, Voldy was the distant threat, she was an immediate threat, and while she thought she is the good one, she was really counterproductive for the "good" side. (much like one Igor Matovic, a former prime minister for ~2years, now just a minister in Slovakia... he won the elections promising end of corruption (the previous government had shady connections, let's leave it at that), but now everybody hates him even more, because he just makes random statements, polarizing the society even more; and much like Umbridge, he has zero self-reflection and can't admit his own mistakes). As the communist saying went back in the day; An initiative idiot is worse than the class enemy.

I didn't watch the movie, so I didn't know that's the route they chose. In the book it's Cho's friend who rats them out, and it's because she believes Umbridge. She only ever joined because Cho really wanted to join. Cho defends her friend, honestly only because they're friends I'm guessing, because she doesn't even have much to defend her with, but the point is that this causes Harry and her to never again converse. Cho cameos in the books after this point, but she's relegated to tertiary character role more or less

When I read this book as a child I kinda wondered what the point of it was. I think it was twofold: 1. To show how much the Ministry of Magic had turned on Dumbledore and Harry Potter, the seeds of this were sowed by Rita Skeeter in GOF. This is important because Voldemort could carry out his plans in secret without much opposition. 2. The prophecy - A lot of the book is Harry dreaming about the department of mysteries, trying to get through a door. Voldemort is obsessed with acquiring the knowledge on how to beat Harry and he thinks that if he gets his hands on the prophecy he’ll be able to. There’s a subplot in the books which culminates in the ministry battle, involving Voldemort’s attempts to steal the prophecy.

4:51 Point of Fact: Bellatrix didn't kill Neville Longbottom's parents. The were tortured to insanity and basically brain damaged--although they never specifically say (in the movies) that they were or weren't dead--the viewer just suspects that they are dead since Neville is raised by his grandmother.

3:04 Oh, rebounding on Cho Chang in front of Cedric's picture is tight! Too bad it lasted only several pages before Cho was forgotten to oblivion. And Harry had to settle with Ginny. If it wasn't obvious, I didn't like how Harry ended up with Ginny all these years.

I just had an "oh shit that's a valid point" moment for when Ryan mentiond Umbridge exploding the entrance to the room of requirement after a LONG time she and Filch and her other minions knew where it was. Like really, why didn't she interrupt them earlier? Maybe because she wanted to collect enough evidance and make sure of what their buisness was
