Step inside the pitch meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!
Subscribe to the NEW CHANNEL for more Pitch Meetings: / @pitchmeetings
The first two Harry Potter movies, both directed by Christopher Columbus, were massive hits. After those two relatively light-hearted movies, director Alfonso Cuaron came on-board and took the franchise in a darker direction with the third film- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban definitely raises a few questions. Like why was Harry Potter intentionally doing magic outside of Hogwarts? When did the entire layout of Hogwarts and its grounds change so dramatically? How are a bunch of deadly Dementors better than the threat of a single wizard maybe entering the school? Did Fred and George not notice a man named Peter sleeping in their brother’s bed every night on the Marauder’s Map? What exactly were Wormtail and Sirius’s plans here?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

so Remus's dad, whose name is Lyall (which also means wolf) married a woman named Hope Howell (howl), then they named their son Wolfy McWolferson, then Lyall proceeded to piss off a very dangerous werewolf (Fenrir Greyback) who is known for biting children, who then bit Remus in revenge...I bet when they took him to St Mungo's Hospital the Healers were like "well idk what you expected to happen really" lmao

Actually "lupin" stems from latin lupinus which stands for "wolfish". Lupus = Wolf, lupinus = wolfish. The "founders" of Rome, Romulus and Remus where raised by a Lupa (=female wolf) according to the legend. Buuuut fun fact: Lupa was also slang for prostitute. Hermione being able to travel through time might be the worst case of "using a power/ability once then otherwise ignoring it" in cinematic history, and that's saying something. The applications and ramifications are endless, especially if you acknowledge how unlikely it is that she's be the only one that can time-travel.
@HerculesBallsInc
@HerculesBallsInc 2 жыл бұрын
In the books, they did very specifically crush the cabinet full of time-turners in the very next book to get rid of them. I'm willing to overlook it since a long-form discussion of 'why time travel is bad except for trivial things' has been done to death.

yup, a lot of the world building in harry potter is rubbish and it's filled with plot holes. the time machines alone bring up an insane amount of issues. the movies still hold a special place for me because i grew up watching them, but they aren't that well written
@666FallenShadow
@666FallenShadow 2 жыл бұрын
@@HerculesBallsInc it literally doesn't matter tho. the simple fact that time machines exist completely fucks up the universe because of all the implications and possibilities they bring. like the other commenter said you either start with a time travel story and focus on that aspect or you do not introduce it at all because you are going to completely fuck up your world building(not that the world building in harry potter is all that good anyway). if you just introduce it randomly in one of your books out of nowhere and never focus on it again for the rest of the series that just creates a shitload of plot holes( for example why didn't they travel back in time again to capture peter before he escaped so that sirius can be acquitted?). the only time i've seen time travel being introduced later into a story without creating problems is in the manga one piece, but the only reason it doesn't create issues is because the character who has that power can only travel and send other people forward in time, not back so that mitigates the vast majority of issues caused by time travel.

His plan was 1) survival and 2) being kept informed which is easier when part of a family of wizard including one who works at the ministry. Plus it had to be someone who would take care of a rat and someone who couldn't know him (the Death eaters probably didn't know Wormtail's rat form at this point but better safe than sorry. Plus I don't see any of them keeping a rat and treating it well). So yeah the Weasley feel like a natural choice.

It is amazing that this one particular scene was shot so well and delivered so perfectly in terms of suspense that you actually suspend your disbelief long enough to not consider how a lifelong werewolf would ever not take his werewolf meds on the exact night of a full moon. This is actually my favorite movie of the series for a few reasons: 1. It is arguably the movie that gave Harry Potter it's distinct style notice how in the first two movies all the wands look the same and the color palette was generally a lot lighter and in the newer movies you get to see more of places like the leakey cauldron and honeydukes sweet shop and you start seeing more magical artefacts like the pocket sneak-o-scope, the maurarders map or the monstrous book of monsters. 2. It's a more character driven story as opposed to "the evil wizard is going to get the very powerful thing that will make him near unstoppable". And 3. IT DOESN'T HAVE VOLDEMORT IN IT it seems weird to say that but when you've seen the whole series all about Voldemort it's nice to go back and see the ONE movie without him in it or the plot being manipulated by him.
@mollusckscramp4124
@mollusckscramp4124 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! It actually reminds me of Schafrillas' video about what makes Shrek 2 such a good sequel, mainly being that it's continuous world building (which falls off a lot after Order of the Phoenix). I also agree that it's counterintuitively great to have a film focusing on an alternate threat than Voldy, it was really exciting getting to know the whole story behind Sirius and really played up not just the world building but also the lore that goes into Harry's whole family lineage and backstory as well. Just all around a well-crafted, totally immersive and engaging piece of the franchise.

I think there was one more use of the time turner... at the beginning of Order of the Phoenix when Harry was going to be on trial and Dumbledore says "By a happy mistake I arrived at the Ministry 3 hours early." 3 hours, just like what Harry and Hermione did in this movie, and it makes sense that he would've gotten there at the original time, found out the trial was over, and used the time turner to make it on time.

"So to stop a student from maybe being killed they bring in a bunch of things that might kill students?" "Oh no no no, don't worry, they don't actually KILL students." "Oh, good." "Yeah, what they do is actually much worse." "Wait wha-"

To be fair, Dumbledore pointed out what a stupid idea this was, but Fudge was an idiot and wanted to appear like he was doing something useful, as opposed to actually doing anything useful

UUUUGGGH this is another failure of the movies!!!!! They never actually tried to kiss any students all year not even Harry-the issue is that they came CLOSE to the students bc of high emotions that they were drawn to feed on, AND Harry was only one more seriously affected bc whole trauma/horcrux etc. BUT THE DUMBASS MOVIE SHOWED THIS AS SUCKING WHITE ENERGY FROM HIS MOUTH, which is not what was happening Until the final scene by the lake. But they used same visual throughout

Prisoner of Azkaban is the most enjoyable book and movie out of the series before things start getting really dark. The scene where he flies on the hippogriff is really good.

it's interesting because depending on how big a fan of harry potter you are it's either the best movie or the absolute worst (or 2nd worst after the 4th movie, which is how I feel) The Carlin Brothers do a great video where they bash it to no end as the worst one for all the things it arbitrarily changes or ruins
